The 2026 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Sarvesh Anil Kushare ended his long-wait for an Asian Games medal on Sunday (September 27) by winning silver medal in the men’s high jump final.
The 31-year-old Indian athlete from Devargaon in Maharashtra, finished behind Fu Chao-hsuan of Chinese Taipei. He was level with the champion on height, and only countback separated them.

After leading for a good part of his competition, Sarvesh slipped to second position after he failed to clear 2.25 on his very first attempt, while Chao Hsuan-Fu cleared the height on his first attempt. Kushare, though, cleared it on the second attempt.
Heartbreak for Ancy, settles for silver
Meanwhile, in a massive heartbreak, Ancy Sojan narrowly missed out on the women’s long jump gold medal. She slipped to silver despite dominating the majority of the competition. China’s Huang Yingying surpassed Ancy in the final few seconds to claim the top spot on the podium with a sensational jump of 6.55m. Ancy, meanwhile, finished second with her best jump of 6.53m.

Compatriot Shaili Singh, who had been in the medal positions for much of the final, finished fourth with 6.42m after China’s Tan Yue took bronze with a 6.46m effort with her last jump.
Harita wins bronze in a photo-finish
Harita Bhadra claimed a hard-fought bronze medal in the women’s 200m race. She edged Japan’s Abigeirufuka Ido in a thrilling photo-finish and take her place on the podium.

Harita clocked 23.20 seconds to finish third, just 0.01 seconds ahead of Ido, who had timed 23.21 seconds. Indonesia’s Shanti Pereira won the gold in 22.78 seconds, while China’s 100m champion Yujie Chen took silver with a timing of 22.93 seconds.

Harita produced a strong finish to secure the final podium position in a closely contested race. The Indian sprinter had little margin for error, with Ido pushing her all the way to the line. Unnati Bollanda finished 6th with 23.46s.
Unsure of her result after the women’s 200m final, with a photo finish deciding the bronze, Harita Bhadra only realised she had finished third after hearing her name announced and teammate Unnati Bollanda telling her.
“I thought the screen over there, also there is one screen right opposite the finish, and I thought the results are going to be coming up on there,” Harita revealed.
“But then, I heard they said my name, and then Unnathi was like, “Oh my god, you came third!” And I was like, “Oh my god,” because I knew it was a very close chest finish between me and the fourth girl, so I wasn’t sure who came third,” a delighted Harita said.
Shankar ends with a bronze
Decathlon athlete Tejaswin Shankar also ended with a bronze medal. He tried his best in the 1500m race and despite winning it with a timing of 4:33.09, he finished with a bronze medal in the men’s decathlon. This is his second medal at the Asian Games after he had won the silver medal at the last edition.

Tejaswin finished with 7934 points while Yuma Maruyama of Japan won with 8123 points and Chen Xinghua of China won with 8012 points. While he couldn’t upgrade his silver from last time, this year’s Decathlon was more competitive than last edition where Tejaswin had won silver with 7666 points and gold had gone to Sun Qihao of China with 7816 points.
This is the second major medal of the season for Tejaswin, who won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and also became the first-ever Indian to break the 8000 points mark with a new national record of 8057 points.
Tejaswin had a poor start to Day one after he clocked 10.98s in the 100m far away from his personal best and earned 865 points. He topped the long jump with 7.53m and 942 points but it was way behind his personal best of 7.82m that he recorded at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Similarly, he recorded 13.16m in shot put with 677 points before opening a big lead for himself in high jump with 2.18m jump and 973 points. With 881 points in the 400m, he finished the first day at the top of the leaderboard.

On the second day, he recorded a new personal best in the javelin throw with 53.37m but performed poorly in the discus throw with 36.77m.

Parul wins 3000m steeplechase bronze medal
Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best and national record time of 9:08.67. Parul stayed with Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi until the final lap before falling away. Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto Tanui took silver in 9:06.82, while Yavi won gold with an Asian Games record time of 9:04.36.
Compatriot Ankita finished fourth with a personal-best 9:19.24. The bronze is Parul’s third Asian Games medal, following silver in the 3000m steeplechase and gold in the 5000m at Hangzhou 2023.
