India will host the Netherlands in the Davis Cup 2026 Qualifiers tie at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium in Bengaluru over the weekend, February 7 & 8.
India, 33rd in the Davis Cup team standings, will have their work cut out against a Dutch unit, which is ranked sixth, in the first round of qualifiers. The second round is scheduled in September.
The teams progressing past both stages of the qualifiers will join hosts Italy for the 2026 Davis Cup Final 8 in November.
Despite their lower rankings, the hosts will look to make the most of their opportunity with home advantage on their side. The Davis Cup head-to-head record between the two teams stands at 2-2.
India will kick off its Qualifiers campaign with Sumit Nagal, the country’s top-ranked singles tennis player at 281, taking on world No. 162 Guy den Ouden.
The match between Nagal and Ouden will be followed by another singles contest between Dhakshineswar Suresh (world No. 465) and Jesper de Jong (world No. 88) to conclude the first day.
The second day will witness a high-profile doubles clash, with the Indian pair of Olympian N Sriram Balaji and in-form Yuki Bhambri taking on Sander Arends and David Pel.
N Sriram Balaji was initially dropped from the squad but was later replaced Ritwik Choudary in the contingent after showcasing good form. Bhambri is the top-ranked doubles player in the tie at world No. 20.
The reverse singles matches will see Sumit Nagal face Jesper de Jong, followed by Dhakshineswar Suresh taking on Guy den Ouden.
India earned their place in the 2026 Davis Cup qualifiers after a superb 3-1 win over Switzerland in their Davis Cup 2025 World Group I tie at the Swiss Tennis Arena in Biel in September.
It was the first time India progressed beyond the World Group I stage since the competition format was revamped in 2019. The Indian tennis team has finished as Davis Cup runners-up in 1966, 1974 and 1987.
