Telangana’s Sri Nithya Sagi finally struck gold as she swam to glory in the women’s 200m backstroke at the 52nd Junior National Aquatic Championships 2026 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, on Sunday.
Suhas Preetham Mylari added a bronze to his two gold medals as he finished third in the men’s 200m backstroke event.

On Sunday, Sri Nithya was in irresistible form as she overcame the challenge posed by Karnataka’s Priyanshi Misra and Meenakshi Menon.
Sri Nithya finished her race in 2;24.59 seconds to bag the coveted gold medal. Priyanshi came in second and Meenakshi finished third.
Sri Nithya Sagi had won a silver medal in the 400m Individual Medley and a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke event earlier in the tournament.
In the men’s 200m backstroke, Vedanta Venkata Madhira of Karnataka stole the honours by finishing the race in 2:06.13 seconds. He was followed by Mongam Theerdhu Samadev of SSCB and Suhas Preetham Mylari of Telangana.
Suhas had won a gold medal in the men’s 50m backstroke event on Saturday. He had earlier produced his personal best on way to winning a gold medal in the 100m backstroke.
Suhas has been training at Gachibowli Stadium under the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG), under the guidance of coach Ayush Yadav.

Men’s 200m Backstroke: 1. Vedanta Venkata Madhira (Karnataka) 2:06.13 sec, 2. Mongam Theerdhu Samadev (SSCB) 2:06.45 sec, 3. Suhas Preetham Mylari (Telangana) 2:06.62 sec.
