P Trupti steered Jain University to a 3-2 victory over Mumbai University in the AIIU Inter Zonal Table Tennis Women Tournament at the Kode Venkatadri Chowdary Sports Complex, Vignana Jyothi Institute of Arts & Sciences (VJIAS), Bachupally, Hyderabad, on Saturday. Trupti did the star turn for her side by winning both her games to steer her side to a comeback win.
Arya Songaokar scored a 3-2 win over Karuna G to put Mumbai University on top. Trupti then defeated Rutja 3-1 to level the scores. Bhoomi Pitale made it 2-1 for Mumbai as she defeated Y Vaishnavi 3-2. Trupti again tied the scores 2-2 by defeating Arya Songaokar 3–1. In the decider, Karuna G came from behind to get the better of Rutja Chinchansure 3-2 to win the tie for Jain University.
In other matches of the day, Savitribai Phule Pune University romped to an easy 3-0 win over Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg, and Chandigarh University had an easy outing against Anna University, Chennai.
Earlier in the day, Prof V Balakista Reddy, chairman, Telangana State Council of Higher Education, inaugurated the championship. He said women should participate in all sports and bring laurels to the nation. He said that Telangana government was supporting sports in a big way by establishing sports university and sports excellence centre. “Women should come forward and take up responsibilities as you have plenty of power within in and can compete in adverse conditions too,” he said.

Hosting the tournament reflects our commitment to promoting women’s participation in competitive sports and providing a national platform for young talent to excel. Women are now competing across all fields, and sports is no exception. Prof LB Laxmikanth Rathod (member, TG PSC), in his address, said Osmania University hosting the prestigious championship was a honour. Prof K Deepla organizing secretary & IUT OU, Prof Rajesh Kumar, dean faculty of education, and Prof B Sunil Kumar, principal of UCPE were present at the inaugural function.
