AP middle-distance runner Venkat Ram Reddy for World Athletics Under-20 Championships

Andhra Pradesh’s middle-distance runner Mogali Venkat Ram Reddy has been selected by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) to represent India at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships, scheduled to take place at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon (USA) from August 5 to 9.

The 19-year-old athlete from Kurnool district will compete in the Men’s 800 metres event as part of the 36-member Indian contingent (comprising 23 men and 13 women) announced by the AFI.

Ram Reddy is currently pursuing his BBA at KL University while receiving advanced middle-distance training under Subbarao and coach Surender Singh (NCOE).

His development and high-performance preparation are actively supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), Sports authority of Telangana (SATG), Telangana athletics association and the Andhra Pradesh Athletics Association.

Ram Reddy is the first Indian athlete to win the gold medal in the men’s 800m at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships. He clocked an outstanding time of 1:47.46, placing him among India’s top Under-20 middle-distance runners.

Ram Reddy is also a gold medalist at the South Asian Federation Games and successfully qualified for the Asian Games in Nagoya.

Ram Reddy is the son of a farmer. His parents Mogali Gopal Reddy and Uma are from Kurnool. Ram overcame initial financial constraints through relentless dedication and steadfast family support.
