Defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), as expected, cruised to a comfortable 7-1 win over Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in their opening encounter of the 6th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2026 at the Gachibowli hockey stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.

Skipper Devinder Walmiki opened the scoring for PSPB in the fourth minute of play but thereafter PSPB were unable to breach the rival citadel.

However, things turned brighter for PSPB in the second quarter as Devinder struck in the 20th minute through another penalty corner.

Then Gurjot Singh scored a brace in the 22nd and 29th minutes to help PSPB go into the break with a 4-0 lead.

Last year’s runners-up Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) began their campaign on a rousing note as they defeated Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 4-1.

After a barren first quarter, CAG upped the ante and struck immediately in the second quarter. Skipper Parmod converted a penalty corner to give his side a 1-0 lead.

But just two minutes later, CRPF struck to level the scores. Lovejeet Singh sounded the board to bring cheer to his camp. However, that was the only bright moment for CRPF as CAG took control of the proceedings after the break.

CAG’s Thrishul Ganapathi H struck twice in the third quarter to wrest the initiative. Ganapathi converted a penalty corner in the 41st minute and four minutes later made it 3-1 in favour of his team through another penalty conversion.
