Elina Svitolina has qualified for the WTA Finals Indian Wells, returning to tennis’ ultimate stage for the first time since 2019. Svitolina will make her fourth WTA Finals appearance after winning the title without losing a match in 2018 and reaching the final again in 2019.
Svitolina is the first mother to qualify for the WTA Finals singles field in more than 15 years and will look to match Kim Clijsters, who won the title in 2010.
Svitolina becomes the seventh singles player to qualify for the WTA Finals, leaving one spot available. The 32-year-old will join WTA World No. 1 Elena Rybakina, Indian Wells and Miami champion Aryna Sabalenka, Roland-Garros winner Mirra Andreeva, Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova and Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula in Indian Wells.
Elina won two titles this season
Svitolina’s two titles this season — the WTA 250 ASB Classic in Auckland at the start of the year and the WTA 1000 Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome — brought her career total to 20, fifth among active players, and helped her return to the WTA Finals for the first time in seven years. She also reached the final of the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

Svitolina won the WTA Finals without losing a match in 2018, making her one of only 10 players to do so since the round-robin format returned in 2003.
Americans Pegula, Gauff in the Finals
Pegula and Gauff will each make their fifth consecutive appearance at the season-ending tournament. Pegula and Gauff’s qualification means the WTA Finals singles draw will feature multiple American players for the fifth consecutive year.
Pegula is no stranger to the WTA Finals and across her four previous appearances finished as runner-up in 2023 and made the semifinals in 2025.
Her season has been highlighted by reaching an impressive five finals, including two at WTA 1000 level, winning the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and contesting the title match at the Cincinnati Open.

The Buffalo native also reached the final at three WTA 500 tournaments, winning the Credit One Charleston Open and finishing runner-up at the VANDA Pharmaceuticals Berlin Tennis Open and the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C.
Florida’s Coco Gauff has also flourished this season at WTA 1000 events, winning the Cincinnati Open and reaching the final at the Miami Open presented by Itaú and Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome).
The former WTA Finals champion, who in 2024 became the first American player to win the title in 10 years, also performed strongly at the Grand Slams to bolster her qualification hopes, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and the US Open and the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
Young guns Andreeva and Noskova in the fray
Exciting young stars Mirra Andreeva and Linda Noskova will make their WTA Finals singles debuts, with Andreeva having qualified in doubles alongside Diana Shnaider in 2025.
Noskova’s qualification extends the Czech Republic’s run of singles representation at the WTA Finals, with the country now having at least one qualifier in 13 of the past 15 editions.
Following a breakout season in 2025, Andreeva has continued her amazing form into and across 2026 to secure her first singles qualification at the WTA Finals.
This season, Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros, reached the final of the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open and claimed WTA 500 titles at the Adelaide International and Upper Austria Ladies Linz.

Joining Andreeva in making her singles debut is Wimbledon champion Noskova, whose qualification is assured as she will finish the season within the Top 7 on the PIF WTA Race to the Finals Leaderboard or as a Grand Slam champion in the No. 8-20 position.
In addition to her first Grand Slam title Noskova also triumphed on grass at the WTA 500 VANDA Pharmaceuticals Berlin Tennis Open, made the semifinals at the WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells) and posted her best result at the US Open with a quarterfinal run.
Sabalenka makes sixth consecutive appearance
Earlier, Aryna Sabalenka had joined WTA World No. 1 Elena Rybakina, who qualified earlier this month, in the prestigious season-ending tournament. The pair contested last season’s WTA Finals title match, with Rybakina narrowly earning the victory.
This will be Sabalenka’s sixth consecutive appearance at the WTA Finals, where she has reached one other final, finishing runner-up to Caroline Garcia in 2022. Since 2003, only Agnieszka Radwanska has made six consecutive singles appearances at the WTA Finals, from 2011-16.
Aryna Sabalenka’s path to qualification has included five finals in 2026. She won back-to-back WTA 1000 titles at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and the Miami Open presented by Itaú, in addition to the WTA 500 Brisbane International at the start of the year.

Rybakina had become the first player to qualify
Elena Rybakina had become the first singles player to secure her place at the WTA Finals. She is set to make her fourth consecutive appearance on tennis’ ultimate stage and returns to the WTA Finals following her undefeated triumph in 2025.
The 27-year-old, from Kazakhstan, is now bidding to become the first player to defend the WTA Finals title since Serena Williams’ three-peat from 2012 to 2014.
She kicked off the year by winning the second Grand Slam of her career in Melbourne at the Australian Open followed by a clay-court title at the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in April. She added her third Grand Slam crown to her trophy cabinet over the weekend, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping three-set final at the US Open.
Rybakina has also posted consistently strong results at WTA 1000 tournaments, finishing runner-up at the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells) and the National Bank Open presented by Rogers (Toronto) in addition to a semifinal run at the Miami Open.
