Esha Rohit Oza’s all-round performance powered minnows UAE to a thumping seven-wicket win over India A in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament in Bangkok on Friday.

Chasing India’s modest 130 for nine, UAE opener and skipper Esha Oza led from the front as she struck an unbeaten half-century and took two wickets to power her side home with four balls to spare.

India skipper Radha Yadav won the toss and elected to bat first but the move backfired badly as the Indian batters struggled to get going against the UAE bowlers.

India lost two wickets with just nine on the board as Humaira Kazi (3) and Tejal Hasabnis were sent back to the pavilion by Samaira Dhanidharka. Dinesh Vrinda 16) and Anushka Sharma tried to stem the rot but after adding 17 more to the total Vrinda fell to Samaira.

Radha (7) too departed without much ado and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Anshuka topscored with a 45-ball 47 with seven fours and later on Tanjuja Kanwar made a 35-ball 34 with five fours. Only three batters reached double figures as India were restricted to 130 for nine.

Samaira took three for 40, while Vaishnave Mahesh took two for 13 and Esha Oza claimed two for 30.

Things got worse for the Indian women on the field as UAE openers Esha and wicketkeeper Theertha Satish (10) denied India an early success as they added 40 for the opening wicket.

After Theertha fell, Samaira joined her skipper and the duo shut out the Indians. They added 71 for the second wicket which sealed India’s fate. Samaira fell for a 31-ball 34 which contained three fours and a six.

Esha remained unbeaten on a 61-ball 72 with eight fours and two sixes as UAE scored 131 for three in 19.2 overs.

Brief scores: India A 130 for nine in 20 overs (Anushka Sharma 47, Tanuja Kanwar 34; Samaira Dharnidharka 3/40, Vaishnave Mahesh 2/13, Esha Oza 2/30) lost to UAE 131 for three in 19.2 overs (Esha Oza 72 not out, Samaira Dharnidharka 34).
