Devika Sihag became the third Indian woman to win a Super 300 women’s singles title. Her fairytale run at the Thailand Masters 2026 badminton tournament culminated with her winning the women’s singles title in Patumwan on Sunday.

The landmark victory makes Devika only the third Indian woman to lift a Super 300 women’s singles title, placing her alongside legends like PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal.

Unseeded Devika Sihag, 63rd in the women’s singles badminton rankings, clinched her maiden BWF World Tour title after Malaysia’s world No. 68 Goh Jin Wei was forced to retire injured while trailing 21-8, 6-3 in the final.

After upsetting higher-ranked players in the previous rounds, Devika Sihag carried her momentum into the final to dominate and close out the first game before injury forced Goh Jin Wei, a two-time junior world champion, to retire in the second.

Devika had been on a bit of a giant-killing spree at the BWF Super 300 tournament. After overcoming senior compatriot Ashmita Chaliha in the opening round, she knocked out world No. 42 Tung Ciou-Tong of Chinese Taipei in the pre-quarterfinals.

Defeating world No. 16 and top seed Supanida Katethong of Thailand in the quarterfinals marked the biggest scalp of Devika’s fledgling career yet.

She also pulled off another upset in the semifinals by beating world No. 35 Huang Yu-Hsun of Chinese Taipei in straight games.

This was Devika Sihag’s maiden BWF World Tour title as well as the first by an Indian this year. She is also a three-time winner in the BWF International circuit.

The 20-year-old had also previously finished runners up at the second Indonesia Masters last year, but the BWF Super 100 tournament falls outside the World Tour ambit despite offering ranking points.

Indian players will be seen in action next at the German Open 2026, which starts on Tuesday.
