On the occasion of National Sports Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, the Telangana Olympic Association (TOA) unveiled a brass statue of the hockey legend, marking the first-ever initiative by a state Olympic Association in India to establish a statue honouring the legendary Olympian.

The unveiling was attended by SATG chairman Shiv Sena Reddy, TOA president A P Jithender Reddy, advisor to the government of Telangana, general secretary P Malla Reddy, treasurer Satish Goud, and Olympian & Dronacharya Awardee Ismail Baig.

The proceedings commenced with a solemn rally to the Major Dhyan Chand Statue, where dignitaries, sports officials, and athletes gathered to pay floral tributes to the legendary Wizard of Hockey.
The ceremony witnessed strong participation from senior officials representing the Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS), Executive Committee (EC) members of the TOA, representatives from various state sports associations, coaches, and enthusiastic young athletes from diverse sporting disciplines.

Addressing the gathering, Jitender Reddy highlighted Major Dhyan Chand’s inspiring contribution to Indian sports and emphasized the TOA’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure and providing continuous support to emerging sporting talent in Telangana.
Shiva Sena Reddy reiterated the state government’s dedication to boosting sports participation from the grassroots to the international level, assuring close collaboration between SATS and state associations to empower athletes.
The program concluded with the felicitation of young promising athletes across various disciplines and a collective pledge to carry forward the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, and excellence.
