Sajida bags a gold and silver at Masters meet, books berth for Asian meet in Bengaluru

Shaik Sajida of Medchal Malkajgiri district won a gold and a silver in the 35-39 years age category at the 11th Telangana Masters Inter-District Swimming Championships 2026 at the GHMC Swimming Pool in Amberpet, Hyderabad, on Sunday.

Sajida won the 50m backstroke event and then finished second behind G Durga Rani in the 50m breaststroke event.

By virtue of her performance, Sajida was selected for the 2nd Asian Masters Championship to be held in Bengaluru from October 4 to 10, 2026. The first and second place winners are eligible for direct entry to the 2nd Asian Masters Championship.

“This achievement is not just about medals. It is about passion, perseverance, discipline and the courage to keep challenging yourself,” said Sajida.

“As a swimmer and coach, this moment is especially meaningful to me. I am grateful for every opportunity to compete, grow and inspire others to believe that age is never a barrier to achieving your dreams,” Sajida added.
