The Sports Hackathon, a pioneering initiative integrating sports, innovation, and technology within a live stadium environment, concluded successfully at Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad. The 24-hour non-stop event witnessed large-scale participation from students, athletes, startups, and innovators, resulting in the generation of 2,132 sports-driven innovations.
A unique feature of the hackathon was its integration of 24 different sports disciplines, including karate, volleyball, swimming, fencing, powerlifting, chess, carroms, and several other indoor and outdoor games. Participants actively engaged in these sports, identified real on-ground challenges, and translated them into innovative solutions. The Pitch Arena served as the central platform where selected ideas were presented before a distinguished jury comprising experts, officials, and investors.
The innovations generated span across areas such as performance enhancement, training methodologies, fan engagement, and sports technology, reflecting insights derived from diverse sporting environments. As a forward-looking initiative, all 2,132 innovations are being curated for publication in an official Sports Hackathon Souvenir, creating a lasting repository and enabling further development and scale.
The event was led and graced by Jayesh Ranjan, special chief secretary (sports), government of Telangana, who played a key role in encouraging and supporting the initiative. Addressing the participants, he emphasized the importance of creating platforms that enable youth to translate real-time sporting experiences into meaningful innovations. The occasion was attended by distinguished dignitaries including Banda Prakash, deputy speaker, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former state minister, and Arshid Chevverty, among others.
“This initiative has demonstrated how sport can become a powerful source of innovation. The ideas generated here reflect the creativity and potential of our youth, and we are committed to taking these innovations forward to create real impact,” said Sundeep Kumar Makthala, brand owner-Hackathon.
Country’s first-ever two-day Sports Hackathon gets underway at Gachibowli indoor stadium
The successful completion of the Sports Hackathon reinforces Telangana’s growing stature as a hub for innovation and youth-driven initiatives, setting a new benchmark in integrating sports with technology and problem-solving.
Some of the top innovation themes at the Sports Hackathon were:
Athlete Safety & Real-Time Health Monitoring
Problem: Athletes, especially in endurance sports like running, face risks of sudden health emergencies such as cardiac arrest and fatigue-related collapses. There is a lack of real-time systems to detect early warning signs and enable immediate intervention.
Solution: A Smart Run AI system using facial recognition and sensor-based analytics monitors physiological indicators in real time. It detects abnormal patterns related to cardiac stress and triggers instant alerts to medical teams, improving athlete safety and reducing fatalities.
Performance Optimization & Intelligent Training
Problem: Athletes often lack personalized, data-driven guidance for improving performance and muscle development, leading to inefficient training and increased risk of injury.
Solution: An AI + Robotics-powered training assistant that provides personalized muscle-building recommendations, posture correction, and performance insights. The system adapts to individual athlete data, enabling smart, safe, and efficient training programs.

Decision Accuracy & Fair Judgement in Sports
Problem: In sports like karate and other contact-based games, human judgement errors in scoring and touch detection can impact fairness and consistency.
Solution: A sensor-based intelligent scoring system that detects valid contact and triggers an instant visual signal (blink/indicator). This enhances accuracy, transparency, and fairness in officiating.
Coaching Access & Talent Connectivity
Problem: Athletes often face difficulty in accessing the right coaches, mentorship, and training ecosystems across different sports and regions.
Solution: A ‘Coach Connect’ digital platform, designed as a sports-focused social network, connects athletes with verified coaches across multiple disciplines, enabling mentorship, collaboration, and talent development at scale.
Smart Equipment & Performance Analytics (Swimming & Beyond)
Problem: In sports like swimming, real-time performance tracking and technique analysis are limited due to lack of smart, accessible wearable technologies.
Solution: Development of smart wearable gadgets for swimming and other sports, capable of tracking metrics such as stroke efficiency, speed, breathing patterns, and movement. These insights help athletes and coaches analyze performance and improve technique scientifically.
