Maharashtra women thrash Hyderabad, Andhra hand out the same to Chandigarh

Maharashtra women handed out Hyderabad a seven-wicket thrashing while Andhra scored a thumping seven-wicket win over Chandigarh in the second round of the BCCI’s Women’s Under-19 T20 Trophy.

After restricting Hyderabad to 137 for eight, Maharashtra skipper Bhavika Ahire struck an unbeaten half-century to take her side to 140 for three at the KCA Cricket Ground in Mangalpuram, Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala.

Batting first, the top four Hyderabad batters were among the runs but they were not able to step up the pace. Katta Tejaswini (28; 23 balls, 4×4, 1×6) and G Kavyasree (21; 23 balls, 3×4) added 52 off 43 balls for the first wicket before both of them perished in quick succession.

Then skipper Kammili Nidhi (39; 33 balls, 2×4, 2×6) and Venkatesh Pratiksha (38; 27 balls, 1×4, 2×6) stitched a 62-run partnership for the third wicket off 53 balls. After Nidhi’s departure, the Hyderabad batters were unable to push the run rate. They ended up with 137 in their 20 overs at a 6.84 run rate.

Gayatri Survase (2/33), Roshni Parrdhi (2/18), Manini Wayal (2/22) were among the wickets for Maharashtra.

The target never posed any difficulty for Maharashtra women even though they lost Suhani Kahandal (0) with seven on the board. Ishwari Awasare (40; 25 balls, 7×4 1×6) and skipper Bhavika stitched a 42-run partnership off 23 balls wih Ishwari doing the bulk of the scoring. Ishwari contributed 34 off 18 balls while Bhavika made 7.

Bhavika then took charge of the proceedings and added 66 off 57 balls with S Kadam, who made a 22-ball 15. Bhavika contributed 47 off 35 balls. Maharashtra made 140 for three in 18.5 overs as Bhavika remained unbeaten on 60 off 48 balls with eight fours.

Pushpitha does it for Andhra

Pushpitha Gowda took three wickets to restrict Chandigarh to 96 for eight and then Andhra replied with 97 for three in 13.3 overs at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivali, Mumbai.

Batting first, Chandigarh never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Only two batters reached double figures as the Andhra bowlers kept a tight lease on their rival’s scoring. Opener Aayu topscored with 30 off 28 balls with two fours and two sixes and No.9 bat Smayra Thakur remained unbeaten on 24 off 18 balls with two fours and a six as Chandigarh failed to post a decent score on the board.

Pushpitha Gowda finished with three for 13 and Shristi Sekhar took two for 23.

In reply, Andhra too found the going a bit tough but they had the resources to weather the storm. V Sethu Sai steered her side to a comprehensive victory.

Andhra lost their skipper Deekhsa Katragadda (10) with 16 on the board. However, Vidya Sree (19) and Sethu Sai stabilized the innings with a 53-run partnership for the second wicket. Though Sethu fell at 72 with her individual score of 35 off 27 balls with five fours and a six, Andhra got home safely.

Greeshma Saini (13) and Pushpitha Gowda (13) added 25 for the unbroken fourth wicket.

J&K girls give Delhi a mighty scare

In Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir gave Delhi a mighty scare before falling to a four-run loss.

In other matches, Bengal defeated Pondicherry by 96 runs and Haryana got the better of Saurashtra by 68 runs.

Delhi 136/6 in 20 overs (Archana 35, Purva Siwach 45) beat Jammu & Kashmir 132/5 in 20 overs (Aleeza Jan 58, Manya Banotra 40).
