Arhaan, Yashveer, Ujwal and Ved shine as Hyderabad carve out 137-run win over Baroda

Hyderabad produced an all-round show to carve out a 137-run win over Baroda in the second round of the BCCI’s Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot on Saturday.

Half-centuries from the blades of No.5, 6 & 7 batters Arhaan Satwalekar (88 off 82 balls with 10 fours and a six), M Durga Ujwal (54 off 49 balls with six fours and two sixes) and skipper Yashveer Goud (84 off 58 balls with five fours and five sixes) helped Hyderabad make a competitive 315 for seven. Then Ved Reddy (4/25) and M Durga Ujwal (3/26) bowled Baroda out for 178.

Batting first, Hyderabad lost wickets are regular intervals to be reduced to 79 for four. Aditya Javvaji fell for 18, Shaik Rehaan Roshan for 8 and P Prince for 4. Jashwanth K (40 off 55 balls with five fours) helped Hyderabad going at the top.

Then Arhaan and Ujwal stitched an 80-run partnership off 74 balls for the fifth wicket before Ujwal fell. While Arhaan played the anchor’s role contributing 24, Ujwal did the bulk of the scoring with a 54.

Arhaan and skipper Yashveer Goud then took the score past the 300-run mark with a 141-run partnership for the sixth wicket. The runs came off 97 balls with Yashveer in belligerent form.

In reply, Baroda were all at sea against the Hyderabad spinners. Dev Mehta struck the first blow and thereafter Ved Reddy and Ujwal ran through the side. Sunny Kalariya and Aayush Prajapati topscored with 41 each, while Kriv Patel made 30 and Malikesh Yadav 23.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 315 for 7 in 50 overs (Jashwanth K 40, Arhaan Satwalekar 88, M Durga Ujwal 54, Yashveer Goud 84; Malikesh Yadav 3/57) beat Baroda 178 in 39 overs (Kriv Patel 30, Sunny Kalariya 41, Aayush P 41no; Ved Reddy M 4/25, M Durga Ujwal 3/26).

Mumbai script comfortable 85-run win over Andhra

Andhra, on the other hand, crashed to an 85-run loss to Mumbai at the Sports Galaxy Cricket Ground in Lucknow.

Mumbai, batting first, made a modest 210 but their bowlers came to the party was Andhra were bowled out for 125.

Toshith Yadav was once again in his elements as he took three of the first five wickets to fall as Mumbai struggled against the disciplined attack. Mumbai batters failed to build on their starts and perished. They were reduced to 83 for five before Shaurya Rai (34) and Harsh Gaikar (43) bailed out the side with a 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Karthik Kumar hit an unbeaten 36 to help Mumbai cross the 200-run mark.

Toshith Yadav finished with superb figures of six for 60 in his 92 overs, while AW Kullayappa took two for 34. However, all the good work was undone by the batters who were all at sea against the determined Mumbai attack, which did not concede even an inch while defending their modest score.

After a solid 37 for the opening wicket, Andhra batters lost their way and wickets fell at regular intervals. No.8 bat Nellapu Rajesh made the topscore of 20 and that shows how badly the Andhra batters struggled on the day.

All the Mumbai bowlers were among the wickets with Karthik Kumar, Vedant Bane, Aary Gaikwad and Amartya Ajit Raje taking two wickets each to script a rather comfortable 85-run win for their side.

Brief scores: Mumbai 215 in (Shaurya Rai 34, Harsh Gaikar 43, Karthik Kumar 36 not out; Toshith Yadav 6/60, AW Kullayappa 2/34) beat Andhra 125 in 31.2 overs (Nellapu Rajesh 20; Karthik Kumar 2/20, Vedant Bane 2/26, Aary Gaikwad 2/21, Amartya Ajit Raje 2/25).
