Telangana’s Diya and Aabha upset top seeds, clinch doubles title

Telangana’s Diya Anand and Aabha Jadhav upset top seeds to win the girls’ doubles final of the Yonex-Sunrise 37th Sub Junior (U-13) National Badminton Championship at Bhagalpur.

In a closely fought final, the duo defeated Telangana’s Aanya P and Maharashtra’s Kyra Raina 21-14, 16-21, 21-15.

In the semifinals, they had packed off fourth seeds Lyosha and Manaswini of Telangana 21-10, 21-14. In the quarterfinals, the duo had got past Aditri Kennan and Nitisha of Tamil Nadu 21-13, 21-18.  Diya Anand is the daughter of former World No.10 and Arjuna awardee Chetan Anand.

Rohit Kaviti of Telangana won a bronze medal in the 50m 3P rifle event at the National Shooting Championships being held in Bhopal in the junior civilian category.

Telangana govt boost for sports in state, says Soni Baladevi

The support provided by the state government to various state sports associations is helping them to successfully organize events in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana, stated Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) managing director Dr Soni Baladevi said at the inauguration of the recurve category competitions in the 45th Senior National Archery Championships at Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet on Wednesday.

She said that many sports programs organized under the auspices of SATS over the past two years have been successful, and these programs are contributing to Hyderabad becoming a sports hub. She added that with the encouraging policies provided by SATS, there are opportunities to organize even more sports events.

Telangana Archery Association President T. Raju said that it is a matter of pride for the entire archery community that Hyderabad is hosting a historic archery tournament after 48 years with approximately 43 teams and 971 archers participating.

He expressed happiness that archers from various states across the country are present on a single platform, and that Indian Olympic archers and Arjuna Award recipients are participating in these competitions. He stated that these competitions are being organized with the aim of showcasing the talent hidden in the sport of archery to the world and winning medals in the upcoming Olympic Games.

The guests at the inauguration included included Young India Sports University vice-chancellor Dr Kishore Gopinath, Telangana Archery Association General Secretary Arvind, development committee members Putta Shankaraiah, Archery Association of India vice-presidents Chetan Kavlekar, Dr Dhurram, E Sanjeeva Reddy, Ch Satyanarayana, Archery Association of India administrative officer Gunjan Abraham, Madhya Pradesh Archery Association general secretary D K Vidarbha, Karimnagar District Archery Association secretary K Srinivas and others.
