Telangana to host maiden National Mixed Doubles Championship in October 2026

In a landmark development in Indian tennis, the first National Tennis Mixed Doubles Championship will be held at the Jubilee Hills International Centre in Hyderabad from October 24 to 30, 2026.

The championship has been initiated by the Telangana State Tennis Association and will be played for the first time in India. The All India Tennis Association has agreed to introduce this championship bringing the mixed doubles format into India’s national championship calendar as a dedicated competition.

The inaugural championship will carry a ₹10 lakh prize purse and bring together leading men and women players from across the country for a national-level mixed doubles competition.

The Telangana State Tennis Association has been entrusted with hosting the championship for the next three years, providing a stable platform for the new national event to grow and establish itself as a regular feature of the Indian tennis calendar.

The first tournament will feature a 32-team main draw, with qualifying scheduled on October 24 and 25. The main draw will be held from October 26 to 30, 2026. The ₹10 lakh prize purse further underlines AITA’s commitment to creating meaningful competitive and professional opportunities for players on the domestic circuit.

Important step in Indian tennis, says Sunder

Speaking about the introduction of the championship, Sunder Iyer, honorary secretary general, AITA, said: “The introduction of the National Tennis Mixed Doubles Championship is an important step in Indian tennis, as we are creating a dedicated national platform for mixed doubles for the first time in the country. It brings together our men and women players in a national championship environment and provides them with an opportunity to develop partnerships and compete in a format that is important at the international level.”

“Mixed doubles is an important format at major multi-sport events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. This championship will provide our players with valuable competitive experience and an opportunity to develop partnerships with the longer-term objective of representing India,” he added.

“With a ₹10 lakh prize purse, we want to make this a meaningful competitive opportunity for the players. We are thankful to Telangana Tennis Association, who will host the championship for the next three years, with this, we are creating continuity that will allow the event to grow into an important annual feature of AITA’s domestic professional circuit,” Sunder said.

K R Raman, president, Telangana State Tennis Association, said: “Apart from Asian Games and the Olympics all four Grand Slam tournaments have this competition. We are delighted that Telangana has been chosen to host the inaugural National Tennis Mixed Doubles Championship. It is a special opportunity for Telangana to be part of a new chapter in Indian tennis, and we are proud to host the championship for the next three years.”
