Ramu sprints to three gold medals, while Aditya bags two and Swapna & Anandi triumph

Telangana athlete Lodenge Ramu won three gold medals at the 37th National South Zone Athletics Championships 2026 held at the IG Stadium, Puducherry.

Ramu won gold medals in the 200 metres, 400 metres and medley relay in the Under -18 boys’ category. A record-breaking 21.55s in the 200m made his performance even more special.

SAI athletes hog limelight, Swapna sets new meet record

Meanwhile, athletes from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad, delivered an outstanding performance at the South Zone meet.

Leading the charge, K Swapna clinched the gold medal in the 3000m Steeplechase with a magnificent time of 11:25.69 and thereby setting a new meet record.

K Sai Aditya dominated the track by winning two gold medals in the 600m (1:24.00) and medley relay.

N Anandi showcased exceptional endurance across events, securing a gold in the medley relay along with two bronze medals in the 400m (56.42s) and 200m (25.66s).

Adding to the medal count, K Sushanth Reddy earned a bronze in the 3000m Steeplechase (9:56.00), while D Manoj secured bronze in the 5000m (15:50.00).

In all SAI athletes won four gold and four bronze medals at the championship.

Senior athletics coach Dr G V Subbarao lauded the athletes for their dedication and grit. Special appreciation was extended to the Sports Authority of Telangana and the Telangana Athletics Association for their continued support, encouragement, and guidance in fostering national talent.
