Surineni sisters Tapasya & Diza on a golden spree at National Power Lifting Championship

Power Lifting sisters Surineni Tapasya Rao and Surineni Diza stole the thunder at the WPC-India National Power Lifting Championships in New Delhi. The sisters were at their very best as they delivered an outstanding performance to belie their age.

Tapasya, who is a Class VIII student at Oxford School in Beeramguda, Hyderabad, won three gold medals to assert her domination in the 44 kgs event of the Sub-junior (Under-13) category. Tapasya lifted 80 kgs in squat, 32.5 kgs in bench press and 105 kgs in dead lift. Overall, the youngster lifted a whopping 217.5 kgs to clinch the gold medals in all the three – squat, bench press and dead lift.

Standing tall: Surineni Diza won three gold medals in the 20 kg weight category

Not to be outdone by her elder sister’s tall deeds, the young and tiny looking Surineni Diza bagged three medals in the 20 kgs weight category. Diza, who is a Class I student at Oxford School, lifted 32.5 kgs in squat, 17.5 kgs in bench press and 40 kgs in dead lift. On the whole, little Diza lifted 88 kgs to claim the first position.

Results:  Surineni Tapasya Rao: Squat 80 kg, bench press 32.5 kg, dead lift 105 kg. Total: 217.5 kg.

Surineni Diza: Squat 32.5 kg, bench press 17.5 kg, dead lift 40 kg. Total: 88 kg.
