Saurashtra take vice-like grip with 298-run lead

Saurashtra took a vice-like grip on their BCCI’s Vijay Merchant Trophy against Hyderabad in Vijayawada on Friday.

Replying to Saurashtra’s 245, Hyderabad failed to put up a fight and caved in for 142 with Aditya Vardhan being the lone saving grace for the team. Aditya made a topscore of 38.

Maharshi V took the bowling honours with a four for 25 haul and Shreeraj B lent him admirable support with a four for 40 haul.

After taking a 103-run first innings lead, Saurashtra pressed on to consolidate their position. At stumps, they were 195 for six with Purva S batting on 84. Swaritsinh N had contributed 38 to the total. For Hyderabad, Ved Reddy took three for 43.

Saurashtra now have a lead of 298 with four wickets in hand.

Hyderabad women stun Mumbai

After the men had pulled off a stunning nine-wicket victory over Mumbai, the Hyderabad women were not to be left behind. On Saturday, the women’s team posted a six-wicket win over Mumbai in their BCCI’s U-19 one-day tournament in Lucknow.

Batting first, Mumbai women were all at sea against the Hyderabad attack and managed to post a meagre 94 in 31.2 overs. Jeeya M made a topscore of 38 without getting out. Jazmine Gill bagged three for 19.

In reply, Hyderabad responded with 97 for four to take home full points from the game.

Rachitha Hatwar smashed a century to help Karnataka overcome a fighting Vidarbha in the BCCI U-19 one-day tournament at the NFC ground in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Rachitha Hatwar smashed a less than run-a-ball century to set up Karnataka’s 29-run victory over Vidarbha in a high-scoring game at the NFC ground in Hyderabad.

Batting first, Karnataka ran up a huge 284 for seven thanks to Rachitha’s 154-ball 156 which contained 21 hits to the fence. She was ably supported by Shreya C who scored 57.

Vidarbha made a spirited reply and ran the rivals close. But the target proved to big for them as they folded up for 255 in 48.1 overs. Akshara made 72 and Shraddha Nabira scored 71 but their efforts went in vain.

Madhya Pradesh pulled off a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Punjab in the U-19 one-day tournament. Batting first at the AOC ground, Punjab could manage a modest 212 with Harsimrat Kaur making a topscore of 39. Harsimranjit and Panmeet Kaur contributed 34 each to the score. B Dhani took the bowling honours for Madhya Pradesh with a three for 48 haul.

In reply, Madhya Pradesh brooked no challenge as the romped to 213 for two in 35.4 overs. Aayushi Shukla topscored with 93 and Mahi Thakur made an unbeaten 45. Tamanna Choudhary struck 39 and Ishana Swami made 30 without getting out.

At the Gymkhana ground, Chhattisgarh scored a thumping nine-wicket win over Bihar. After bowling out Bihar for 99, Chhattisgarh replied with 100 for one in 18.5 overs with Chand Chelak scoring 54 of those.

Punjab 212 in 50 overs (Harsimranjit 34, Harsimrat Kaur 39, Panmeet Kaur 34; Dhani B 3/48) lost to Madhya Pradesh 213/2 in 35.4 overs (Aayushi Shukla 93, Tamanna Choudhary 39, Ishana Swami 30no, Mahi Thakur 45no).

Bihar 99 in 36.4 overs (Deepa Kumari 33; Mahak N 3/9) lost to Chhattisgarh 100/1 in 18.5 overs (Chand Chelak 54).
