Samrat Rana and Suruchi Singh narrowly finished behind the Uzbekistan shooters and had to settle for the silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Shooting Championship 2026 at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Indian duo finished with 479.6 points in the final, while Uzbekistan’s Nigina Saidkulova and Mukhammad Kamalov took the gold medal with 481.3. Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Yen-Ching and Hsieh Hsiang-Chen settled for bronze with 412.2 points. Vietnam finished fourth.

Samrat and Suruchi were ahead at the end of the first two series but a late rally from the Uzbeks unseated them from the perch.

The final was conducted under the revised four-team format. The new format replaced the earlier one, where the top two teams from the qualifiers made the gold medal match and the teams finishing third and fourth contested the bronze medal match. Instead, the top four teams contested in the final, with the fourth team getting eliminated after the fourth series.

Earlier in the day, Samrat Rana and Suruchi Singh topped the qualification round with 583 points to book their place in the title round.

The second Indian team, comprising Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and Sharvan Kumar finished ninth with 571.

Samrat Rana, the reigning men’s 10m air pistol world champion, had won the bronze medal in individual competition on Wednesday and also helped the Indian men’s team bag a silver.

Suruchi Singh, meanwhile, had agonisingly missed out on a medal in the 10m air pistol women’s individual event on Wednesday after finishing fourth behind compatriot Esha Singh, who bagged the gold. Suruchi and Esha, along with Manu, had also claimed the top podium in the women’s team event on the opening day of competition.

The win on Thursday takes India’s medal tally up five, two gold, two silver and one bronze, in senior events.
