The Telangana Physical Education Common Entrance Test (PECET) will be held from May 31 to June 3. The entrance test is for enrolment into the 2-year B.PED and D.PEd courses.

“These courses are basically meant for sportspersons but unfortunately many of them are not aware of these courses,” said Prof Rajesh Kumar, convenor TG PECET 2026.  “Hardly 10 per cent or so sportspersons enroll in these courses but we want to make sure that this year there will be at least 50 per cent enrollment of sportspersons into these courses,” he said.

Rajesh, who is a senior professor in Physical Education and Dean, Faculty of Education, said that as jobs have become scarce for sportspersons in sports quota, these courses can help them earn a decent salary. “These are job-oriented courses, and the salaries start from Rs 50,000 to 70,000 and, therefore, are a good opportunity for sportspersons,” he added.

The first meeting of the test committee was held recently and the committee had thorough discussions on various issues viz., Eligibility Criteria, Scheme of Examination, Norms, Schedule of Examination etc. The same was approved by the committee.

The notification for the PECET will be done on February 25 and submission of online applications will begin from March 2.

Prof V Balakista Reddy, chairman, TGCHE, Prof U Umesh Kumar, vice-chancellor, Satavahana University & chairman, TG PECET 2026, Prof E Purushotham, vice chairman-I, TGCHE, Prof Shaik Mahamood, vice- chairman-II, TGCHE, Prof Sriram Venkatesh, secretary, TGCHE, Prof Rajesh Kumar, convener, TG PECET 2026 and others were present at the meeting.
