Parthiv, Huzaifa salvage draw for Hyderabad

Hyderabad’s Parthiv and Huzaifa struck unbeaten half-centuries to salvage a draw against Saurashtra in their Vijay Merchant Trophy match in Vijayawada on  Sunday.

Chasing 369 for victory, Hyderabad reached 156 for two at stumps. Parthiv made an unbeaten 88 and Huzaifa remained not out on 51.

Earlier, Purva S scored an unbeaten 100 off 237 balls with 10 fours as Saurashtra made 263 for six in their second inngs.

Saurashtra earned three points from the game and Hyderabad had to be content with nothing.

Brief scores: Saurashtra 245 & 263/6 in 60 overs (Swaritsinh N 38, Purva S 100no, Mantra Gurnani 76no; Ved Reddy 3/75) drew Hyderabad 142 & 156/2 in 54 overs (Huzaifa 51no, Parthiv 88no). Points: Saurashtra 3, Hyderabad 0.

Aditya Vardhan to lead Hyd U-16 side

Aditya Vardhan will lead the Hyderabad U-16 team for the Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Haryana to be played at the DVR Ground in Malapadu, Andhra Pradesh, from December 18 to 20.

The team: Aditya Vardhan (capt), Huzaifa Imran (VC), G Parthiv Varma, Ram Charan Markatta, C Sai Thanishq, P Prince, Guru Vidhwan (WK), B Varshit Reddy (WK), Md Basheer, P Dheeraj, Ved Reddy, Ayush Malhotra, B S Sai Sarath, S Ritvik, G Karan. Standbys: G Murali Akshith, K Sai Nehal, Harsh Gandra, Sabyasachi Pradhan, P Tanush Chandra.

Akiranandam, Deepika, Srinikesh bag medals

Telangana’s Banothu Akiranandan (T38 category) secured a gold medal in the 200m race with a timing of 23.50s at the Youth Asian Para Games in Dubai.

Vijaya Deepika won a gold medal in the mixed doubles of the Para Table tennis event. She also won a bronze medal in the singles event.

Srinikesh Kiran (S8 category) won three bronze medals in swimming. He claimed the bronze medals in 100m free style, 100m breast stroke and 50m free style.

Pravin and Aditi bag gold medals

Ojas Pravin Deotale won the gold medal in the 50 metres compound category of the 32nd NTPC Senior Indian Round, 21st NTPC Senior Compound and 45h NTPC Senior Recurve National Archery Championship in Hyderabad.

In the women’s section, Aditi Gopichand Swami also of Maharashtra won the yellow medal.

Telangana girls win 2 medals at SGFI Nationals

Telangana girls Karra Shivani won a silver and Siva Kumari Nandigam won a bronze in the 50 backstroke at the SGFI Nationals.

Prof Rajesh Kumar to travel to Malaysia

Prof Rajesh Kumar, senior professor in Physical Education, UCPE, Osmania University and Dean, Faculty of Education, Osmania University, will be participating in the 11th Asia Pacific Conference on Exercise and Sports Science as a symposium speaker. The meet will be held at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from December 16 to 19. Prof Rajesh will deliver a talk on the role of Play for the development of children’s skills in Indian Education System.
