Nizam Basketball Academy hoopsters were too hot to handle as they cruised to a 77-45 victory over Good Training Academy in the BM John Vinayasager Basketball Tournament at the YMCA Secunderabad on Tuesday evening.
Nizam Basketball Academy led 41-30 at the half-time but, thereafter, ran away with the game to post a comfortable victory.
The match started evenly with both teams keeping pace with each other. They went basket-to-basket and kept the spectators on their toes. Dhanush and Raja scored for Good Training whereas Balaji, Charan and Majid combining well to find the basket for Nizam.
Anthony and Teja were quick in stealing the ball from their rivals and that helped Nizam Basketball Academy end the first quarter 21-15.
In the second quarter, Raja and Shivaraj netted a 3-pointer apiece for Good Training but Charan and Balaji dominated from the paint for Nizam as they led 41-30 at half-time.
After the lemon break, Nizam tightened their defense to restrict Good Training to just one point and in turn scored 22 points through Balaji, Majid and Arvind to take a decisive 63-31 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the last quarter, Good Training fought hard but the lead was too much to bridge and finally Nizam won the match 77-45.
On Monday evening, YMCA Secunderabad thrashed City College Old Boys 85-43. The hosts brooked no challenge from City College Old Boys team as they scored a will. Nathan was the start for YMCA as he was all over the rival basket and scored 22 points to spearhead YMCA’s scoring spree.
St Francis Boys & GHMC Sanathnagar post victories
In another match, St Francis Boys pulled off a thrilling four-point win over Keystone Academy. St Francis Boys managed to edge Keystone 72-68 in a closely fought encounter.
GHMC Sanathnagar too eked out a victory against Mustangs in a low-scoring game. Sanathnagar won 48-42.
The tournament is being conducted by YMCA Secunderabad Alumni at YMCA Secunderabad in honour of B M John Vinayasager, former international player with a decorative career in basketball.
