American Alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn revealed in a social media post on Wednesday (February 11) that she was “making progress” since her crash during a race at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 over the weekend.

Pictured in a hospital bed with a gentle smile and a thumbs-up, Vonn said in her post that she had a third “successful” operation.

“Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok,” Vonn wrote.

Vonn was airlifted to a clinic in Cortina after falling just seconds into her run. She was then transferred to a larger hospital in Treviso, where she underwent orthopaedic surgery to stabilise a fracture in her left leg.

In her first message since the crash, Vonn said that although her comeback at the Winter Olympic Games since PyeongChang 2018 was not the fairytale ending she had hoped for, she nevertheless “dared to dream and worked so hard to achieve it”.

Among the photos she posted on Wednesday, Vonn was shown in good spirits, while another was of a trolley stacked with bouquets.

“Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world,” Vonn wrote.

“Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for.”
