Indian para paddlers sign off with 16-medal haul at ITTF World Para Future Lahti 2026

India signed off on a highly successful campaign at the ITTF World Para Future Lahti 2026 in Finland with an impressive 16-medal haul, six gold, four silver and six bronze, across singles and doubles.

Singles accounted for 10 medals, while India added six more in doubles, including two gold, one silver and three bronze, underlining the country’s growing strength and depth across events.

Rameshbhai Chaudhary and Sumit Sehgal spearheaded the men’s doubles campaign in Classes 4-8, claiming gold with a composed 3-0 victory over South Africa’s Ibrahim Abdullaha and Rakan Abdulrahman in the final. The Indian pair combined controlled placement and sharp anticipation with composure under pressure to complete a strong campaign.

Sumit completed a memorable doubles’ double, partnering Deepikarani Ramanathan to the mixed doubles title. The duo overcame Finland’s Timo Kalavei and Aino Tapola 3-0 in the final, with Sumit adapting seamlessly to a new partner and different tactical demands.

Sonal Patel and Rameshbhai Chaudhary added a silver in mixed doubles after reaching the final, while three Indian combinations secured bronze. Shubham Wadhwa and JD Shubham Wadhwa and JD Madan took men’s doubles bronze, Prachi Pandey and Savita Ajjanakatti claimed bronze in women’s doubles, and Shivam Pal and Noorali Jamani completed the doubles tally with a mixed doubles bronze.

India’s medals across men’s, women’s and mixed doubles reflected the contingent’s growing depth and versatility in partnership events, with multiple combinations making their presence felt on the podium.

The 16-medal haul in Lahti was a fitting encouragement for Indian para table tennis, underlining the contingent’s ability to convert strong performances into titles ahead of tougher competitions.
