Hyderabad salvage draw, Maharashtra take 3 points

Hyderabad, who had conceded a 146-run first innings lead, managed to eke out a draw against Maharashtra on the final day in the Vijay Merchant Trophy at Mulupadu on Tuesday.

Facing a big deficit, the Hyderabad batters failed to rise to the occasion and were reduced to 184 for seven before the game was called off. Ram Charan struck a fighting 64 and Huzaifa made 33 and Parthiv scored 30. Manthan Patil took three for 43.

Earlier, Maharashtra had scored 447 for eight before declaring their innings closed. Vishawajit Jagtap remained unbeaten on 70. Ram Charan took four for 17.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 301 in 80.4 overs & 184/7 in 66 overs (Parthiv 30, Huzaifa 33, Ram Charan 64; Manthan Patil 3/43) drew Maharashtra 447/8 decl in 109 overs (Vishwajit Jagtap 70no; Ram Charan 4/17). Points: Maharashtra 3, Hyderabad 0.

Punjab take first innings lead

Punjab batters made merry on the second day of their Cooch Behar Trophy match against Hyderabad at the NFC grounds in Hyderabad.

Replying to Hyderabad’s modest 246, Punjab ground the rival attack to the dust. By close of play, Punjab were 388 for seven – a handy 142 lead. Sarthak Tyagi was batting on 63 and giving him company was Adhiraj Singh Mangat on 55. Earlier, Sourish Sanwal made 68 and Sagar Virk struck 72.

For the hosts, the only silver lining was the performance of off-spinner Waif Kachchhi, who bagged seven wickets for 101.

Hyderabad women’s U-19 team

Wicketkeeper K Nidhi will lead the Hyderabad U-19 team in the BCCI Women’s U-19 one-day tournament to be held at Lucknow from December 13. The Hyderabad Cricket Association announced a 15-member squad for the first two matches of the tournament. Two district players – K Srivalli and P Akshaya Reddy – are part of the team.
