Abhiraj slams 175; Hyderabad make comeback but not out of the woods still

After being at the receiving end on the first day, Hyderabad batters showed some spine to restore pride and hope for a draw against Haryana in their BCCI Vijay Merchant Trophy match at Mulapadu near Vijayawada on Friday.

Hyderabad, who were shot out for just 97 in their first innings, came back strongly in the second and finished the second day’s play at 177 for four. Hyderabad are till 64 behind and they have quite a task on hand on the morrow. Aditya Vardhan and Ram Charan were batting on 62 and 69 respectively. Much of Hyderabad’s hopes will depend on this pair.

Earlier, Haryana went on to make 338 with Abhiraj Vashisht hammering 175 of those. His knock came off 251 balls and contained 23 fours and four sixes. Yash B chipped in with a useful 66. Ved Reddy took three for 77 for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad women crash to six-wicket loss to Jharkhand

Hyderabad women crashed to a six-wicket loss to Jharkhand in the BCCI Women’s U-19 One-day Tournament in Lucknow.

Put into bat, Hyderabad could manage a modest 137 in 42.2 overs. K Srivalli made a topscore of 45 and V Prathiksha contributed 32. Jharkhand replied with 140 for four in 26.5 overs as Arushi scored an unbeaten 47.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 137 in 42.4 overs (V Prathiksha 32, K Srivalli 45; Kumari Palak 3/44) lost to Jharkhand 140/4 in 26.5 overs (Arushi 47no).

Vandita, Rishika bag six wickets apiece

In Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh scored a 134-run win over Bihar at the NFC ground. Batting first, MP made 265 for eight with Anaadi Tagde scoring 55 and Tamanna C getting 40. Bihar, in reply, were restricted to 131 for nine with Aayushi Shukla bagging three for 23.

Rishika S bagged six wickets to set up Chhattisgarh’s seven-wicket victory over Vidarbha at the Gymkhana. Batting first, Vidarbha were bowled out for 163 despite Arya Pondge’s 72. Rishika took six for 40 in her 10 overs.

Chhattisgarh replied with 167 for three as Sheikh Naziya scored an unbeaten 54.

At the RGICS, Vandita K Rao took six wickets to bowl Karnataka to a 104-run victory over Punjab. Karnataka, asked to bat first, made a competitive 199 for nine in 50 overs with Karnika K scoring 55 and Vandita making 32.

In reply, Punjab were shot out for 95 as spinner Vandita bagged six for 17.

Brief scores: Madhya Pradesh 265/8 in 50 overs (Tamanna C 40, Ishana Swami 31, Vaishnavi Vyas 31, Rishika Jain 33, Anaadi Tagde 55) bt Bihar 131/9 in 50 overs (Aayushi Shukla 3/23).

Vidarbha 163 in 37 overs (Arya Pondge 72, Riddhima M 31; Rishika S 6/40, Deepika B 4/38) lost to Chhattisgarh 167/3 in 30.5 overs (Yati Sharma 31, Sheikh Naziya 54no).

Karnataka 199/9 in 50 overs (Shreya Chavan 45, Karnika K 55, Vandita K Rao 32; Harman 4/32, Alice 3/17) bt Punjab 95 in 28.3 overs (Vandita K Rao 6/17).
