Elegans Eagles stage a remarkable comeback within 24 hours, thrash hosts FNCC Lions 7-4

Elegans Eagles, who went down to Yuvaputra Tigers on Saturday, made a remarkable comeback within 24 hours to trounce FNCC Lions 7-4 in the FNCC-Pullela Gopichand Badminton League 2026 at the Film Nagar Cultural Center (FNCC) Sunday.

This is Elegans Eagles second win in the league. They had edged out Porous Panthors in the inaugural tie last week.

On Sunday, Elegans Eagles brushed aside the challenge posed by FNCC Lions as they dominated most of the ties on the day.  Eagles won both the Junior women’s singles ties. Aaryama defeated Aaradhya in a thrilling three-game encounter 9-15, 15-8, 15-12. Aaryama made a slow start and lost the first game 9-15 but she came back strongly in the next two games and won them 15-8, 15-12.

Kanvika too took three games to settle the matter against Lohitha. Kanvika won the first game quite easily at 15-6 but suffered a lapse in concentration and went down 11-15 as Lohitha upped the ante. Kanvika recovered quickly and took the decider at 15-12.

Eagles, however, lost the Junior men’s singles as Chinmay went down tamely to Krishna at 13-15, 4-15.

FNCC Lions hit back strongly in the women’s singles by bagging both the ties. Rakshitha dominated Shreyanshi in a comfortable 15-12, 15-8 victory. Gatha then made it 3-1 in favour of the hosts as she snuffed out the challenge posed by Disha Santosh with a 15-14, 15-3 verdict.

In the men’s singles, it was the Elegans Eagles all the way as they pocketed all the three points from there. Pranit came from a game down to pip Dayan Santosh. Pranit lost the first game at 11-15 but then won the next two with an identical scores 15-12, 15-12 to pocket the match.

Tazuwala was more dominating as he toyed with Rohan in a 15-9, 15-8 thrashing. Pranav Ram, on the other hand, had a battle on hand. He took the first game from Dattu with relative ease at 15-5 but then lost the next one 9-15. However, he quickly regained his composure to carve out victory with a 15-11 verdict in the decider.

FNCC then won the mixed doubles as Divyansh & Anushka Anagha got the better of Hari and Varna in three games. The FNCC pair won the first game at 15-11 but the Eagles came back strongly to take the second game at 15-13. However, Divyansh and Anushka won the decider 15-11.

In the women’s doubles, Varna and Riddhima defeated the FNCC duo in straight games. Krishna and Sai Ram won the men’s doubles to complete the rout.

Women’s doubles: Varna / Riddhima beat Anushka / Anagha 15-11, 15-13.

Men’s doubles: Krishna / Sai Raman beat Ishan / Om 15-7, 10-15, 15-14.
