Hyderabad crashed to an innings and 38 runs with a day to spare against Punjab in the BCCI Cooch Behar Trophy (Under-19) at the NFC ground in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

After conceding a 194-run first innings lead, Hyderabad batters dished out another insipid performance. They fared worse than the first innings (246).

As in the first innings, openers TS Rama Krishna and Wafi Kachchhi began well and added 39 before the former fell for 22. Four runs later, Siddharth Rao (1) departed and Wafi fell after making 22. Hyderabad, at this stage, were reduced to 53 for three.

Skipper Alankrith Rapole and Arhaan Satwalekar tried to undo the damage as they stitched a 28-run stand but Arhaan, who had another poor outing in the game, fell for 21. Arhaan became Anmoljeet’s second wicket.

However, Alankrith found an ally in Vikash Gupta (8) and the duo took the score to 115 with a 34-run partnership for the fifth wicket.  Most of the runs were scored by Alankrith.

V Yashveer (0) didn’t trouble the scorers and Rahul Karthikeya (3) too didn’t last long as Hyderabad were down to 115 for six.

Alankrith, who was running out of partners, fell with the score reading 132 and that more or less wound up things for the hosts. Alankrith topscored with 48 with four fours and two sixes. Malik remained unbeaten on 21 as Hyderabad were bowled out for 156.

Lakshay Kansal did the most damage with a five for 47 haul and Anmoljeet took four for 61.

Earlier, resuming at 388 for seven, Punjab went on to make 440. Sarthak Tyagi, who was on 63, completed a well-deserved century. He fell for 109 but not before hammering 11 fours and two sixes

Punjab took seven points from the game and Hyderabad had to be content with nothing.  Punjab consolidated their position at the top of Elite Group E with 26 points from four games, while Hyderabad, who crashed to their second loss, are in the third position with nine points.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 246 & 156 in 70.5 over (Alankrit Rapole 48; Anmoljeet 4/61, Lakshay Kansal 5/47) lost to Punjab 440 in 116.1 overs (Sarthak Tyagi 109, Adhiraj Singh Mangat 58, Wafi Kachchhi 7/101). Points: Punjab 7, Hyderabad 0.
