Chandigarh pull off three-wicket win over Hyderabad in a thrilling contest

Chandigarh pulled off a three-wicket win over Hyderabad in a closely-fought fifth round encounter of the BCCI Under-23 Women’s One-day Tournament at the Maharana Pratap College ground in Dehradun on Wednesday.

Hyderabad slipped to the fourth position in the six-team Group E. Hyderabad have eight points from five games.

Electing to bat, Hyderabad lost openers Akanksha Semwal, run out by Gulnaaz, for 18, Sandhya Gora, who was bowled by skipper Aaradhana D Bisht, for 15, and Kunchala Niteesha, who was caught by Sarah off Hitanshi, for 3. Hyderaad were reduced to 43 for three in the 12th over.

Skipper Vanka Pooja and Mamatha added 24 before the latter was bowled by Smayra Thakur for 9. Pooja and V Prathiksha then added 59 off 81 balls to stabilize the Hyderabad innings. Pooja contributed 18 off 25 balls, while Prathiksha made 39 off 56 balls. Pooja was run out by Mannu after making a 54-ball 45 with seven fours.

Prathiksha then waged a lone battle as she helped Hyderabad reach 211 in 49.4 overs. Prathiksha was caught by Smayra Thakur off Aaradhana D Bisht after making 75 off 94 balls with nine fours and two sixes.

Parushi Prabhakar took three for 44, while Aaradhana D Bisht got two for 43.

Hitanshi and Yashika win it for Chandigarh

Chandigarh too did not have a bright start as they lost Sarah (0), bowled by Sirichendhanaa, Parushi Prabhakar (24), who was caught behind by Mamatha off Srujana, and Palak Rana (13), who was caught by Srujana off Sirichendhanaa. Chandigarh were reeling at 40 for three.

Gulnaaz and Aaradhana D Bisht then added 40 for the fourth wicket before Aaradhana was bowled by V Prathiksha for 23. Gulnaaz was run out by Prathiksha for 23 and Chandigarh had lost half their side with 105 on the board.

However, Hitanshi and Yashika took the fight to the Hyderabad camp as they added 65 for the sixth wicket off 84 balls. Hitanshi scored 35 off 46 balls and Yashika got 19 off 38 balls. Hitanshi fell to K Srivalli, caught by substitute M Sakshi Rao, for 51 off 65 balls with nine fours.

Yashika and Aahan Vaid then added 38 for the seventh wicket before Vaid was caught by Srivalli of Sirichendhanaa for 12. However, Yashika and Smayra Thakur (4 not out) took their side to 212 for seven in 49.2 overs. Yashika remained unbeaten on 43 off 64 balls with seven fours.

Sirichendhanaa took three for 45 for Hyderabad.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 211 in 49.4 overs (Vanka Pooja 45, V Prathiksha 75; Parushi P 3/44) lost to Chandigarh 212/7 in 49.2 overs (Hitanshi 51, Yashika 43 not out; Sirichendhanaa 3/45).
