Andhra women thump Saurashtra by nine wickets to post their third victory

Openers G Udvitha struck an unbeaten half-century to power Andhra to a thumping nine-wicket win with plenty of overs to spare over Saurashtra in the BCCI Women’s Under-23 One-day Tournament at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun on Wednesday.

Replying to Saurashtra’s modest 116, Andhra went on to make 117 for one in just 21.4 overs. Openers Udhvitha and K Mahanthi Sree gave their side a solid start by adding 68 off 82 balls for the first wicket. Udvitha scored 32 off 43 balls, while Mahanthi Sree got 32 off 39 balls before she fell to Monika Virani. Her knock contained six fours.

Udhvitha and Setu Sai V then added 49 off 48 balls for the unbroken second wicket as Andhra reached 117 for one in 21.4 overs.

Udvitha remained unbeaten on 51 off 69 balls with seven fours and Setu Sai was unconquered on 27 which came off 22 balls with five fours.

Earlier, Saurashtra lost three early wickets with just 22 on the board. Captain Hirva V (20) and Miloni (37) then added 40 for the fourth wicket as they tried to salvage the situation. However, Hirva was run out by B Anusha and Saurashtra lost their way.

They were bundled out for 116 in 40 overs as the Andhra bowlers established their dominance. S Sailakshmi took two for 23 and B Anusha bagged two for 16.

With the four points from the match, Andhra have taken their tally to 12 from five matches and are in the second position behind Delhi in Elite Group E.
