Arihant KS and Aryaa Dwivedi crowned champions at NMDC Telangana Squash Open

Arihant KS of Tamil Nadu and Aryaa Dwivedi of Telangana were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s categories at the fifth edition of the NMDC Telangana Squash Open which came to a thrilling close at the Sports Complex in  Secunderabad Club on Wednesday.

Top seed Arihant KS claimed the men’s title with a hard-fought five-game win over fellow Tamil Nadu player Sandhesh PR. Arihant prevailed 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5 in a final that swung back and forth before he closed it out in the decider.

In the women’s final, top seed Aryaa Dwivedi gave the home crowd at Secunderabad Club plenty to cheer, defeating Sreya B S (KL) in straight games, 11-9, 11-3, 11-7, to earn the title on home soil and cap a dominant run through the draw across the week.

Champions were also crowned across the Junior and Masters categories, with top seeds Agastya Uppal (DL), Nirvaan Uppal (DL), Fareed Andrabi (RJ), Rahul Sanjay Balakrishnan (KA), Inaya Andrabi (RJ), and Vyomika Khandelwal (TN) all winning their respective finals. There were notable upsets too, with unseeded Shresht Iyer (KA) claiming the boys’ Under-17 title, Vasundhara Nangare (MH) edging out Telangana’s own Arnaa Dwivedi in a tight four-game girls’ Under-17 final, and Arunima Chaubey (KA) coming from a set down to beat top seed Aarna Rao (MH) in the girls’ Under-13.

With the curtains now drawn on the fifth season of the tournament, HSPL thanked title promoter NMDC, more than 350 players and their families who travelled to Hyderabad for the event, along with the spectators who turned out in numbers to support the free-entry tournament through the week.

Men (final): 1-Arihant KS (TN) beat Sandhesh Pr (TN) 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5.

Women (final): 1-Aryaa Dwivedi (TS) beat Sreya BS (KL) 11-9, 11-3, 11-7.

Boys: Under-11 (final): 1-Agastya Uppal (DL) beat Vedant Shinde (MH) 13-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-4. 3rd/4th place: 3/4-Kandha Swamy (TN) beat Viraj Shinde (MH) 11-13, 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8.

Under-13 (final): 1-Nirvaan Uppal (DL) beat Aryan Sk (KA) 11-9, 7-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7. 3rd/4th place: 3/4-Lakhvanth AP (TN) beat Nirvaan Parikh (MH) 11-5, 6-11, 12-10, 11-5.

Under-15 (final): 1-Fareed Andrabi (RJ) beat Armaan Choudhary (MH) 11-9, 11-5, 11-9. 3rd/4th place: 3/4-Arush Sharma (UP) beat Ansh Kumar (UP) retired.

Under-17 (final): Shresht Iyer (KA) beat 3/4-Pradeepsingh Rathore (KA) 12-10, 11-7, 11-5. 3rd/4th place: 9/16-Vivaan Sagar (MH) beat Reyansh Kulshreshtha (CG) 11-9, 11-5, 9-11, 11-2.

Under-19 (final): 1-Rahul Sanjay Balakrishnan (KA) beat Aatik Yadav (MH) 11-5, 11-7, 11-8. 3rd/4th place: 3/4-Arjun Morey (MH) beat Meyyappan P (TN) 11-7, 11-8, 11-5.

Girls: Under-11 (final): 1-Inaya Andrabi (RJ) beat Amirtha Kundave (Goa) 11-2, 11-5, 11-6. 3rd/4th place: Barisha Begam (TN) beat J N Iniya (TN) 11-4, 11-7, 11-0.

Under-13 (final): Arunima Chaubey (KA) beat 1-Aarna Rao (MH) 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 2-11, 11-6. 3rd/4th place: Pranaya Choudhry (TN) beat Aarna Pandey (KA) 9-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7.

Under-15 (final): Shanaya Roy (MH) beat 5/8-Deepa Debiram (TN) 11-5, 12-10, 15-13. 3rd/4th place: 3/4-Kiara Gada (MH) beat Sameera Gorsia (MH) 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9.

Under-17 (final): 1-Vasundhara Nangare (MH) beat Arnaa Dwivedi (TS) 11-3, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9. 3rd/4th Place: 3/4-Samara Bilimoria (MH) beat Kaitlyn Varkey (TS) 11-1, 11-3, 11-2.

Under-19 (final): 1-Vyomika Khandelwal (TN) beat Sehar Nayar (CH) 8-11, 11-8, 12-10, 13-11. 3rd/4th place: Riyansika Verma (KA) beat Saanvi Shree (TS) 11-7, 11-7, 11-8.

Masters (finals): Over-35: Ashish Keskar (Ser) beat 3/4-Mohd Anas (DL) 11-4, 11-8, 11-6.

Over-45: Aditya Maheshwari (MH) beat 5/8-Benjamin Nedarapalli (MH) 11-8, 11-5, 11-6.

Over-60: Deepak Moolani (MH) beat 1-Ashun Bahl (MH) 11-9, 11-6, 11-6.
