Adarsh and Nagasaram Nikitha reigned supreme in the 3000 metres Under-19 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the 55th KVS Regional Athletic Meet 2026-27 which commenced on Monday at the Makhan Singh Athletics Stadium, Artillery Centre, Golconda, Hyderabad.

In the 3000m Under-19 boys’ final, Adarsh of PM Shri KV No. 2 Nausena Bagh won gold. He was followed by Abhijot of PM Shri KV AFS Suryalanka and Nikit of PM SHRI KV No. 2 Golconda.

In the 3000m Under-19 girls’ final, Nagasaram Nikitha of PM SHRI KV Gachibowli clinched the gold medal. Diva Bihani of PM Shri KV No. 2 Golconda won the silver, while Basava Yesessri Priya of PM Shri KV No. 1 Vijayawada secured the bronze.

In the high jump Under-14 girls’ event, Anu Priya Kumari of PM Shri KV SPV NPA Shivampally bagged the gold medal. Vaishnavi Singh of PM Shri KV No. 2 Nausena Bagh won the silver.

In the shot-put Under-14 girls’ final, Sony Kuncham of PM Shri KV Ongole claimed gold, while Ramavath Veenitha of PM Shri KV Miryalaguda secured the silver and Sandrani Teja Sri of PM Shri KV No. 1 Nausena Bagh won the bronze.

The three-day meet, to be held from April 27 to 29, is being hosted by PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Golconda & No. 2 Golconda, Hyderabad. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by chief guest Brigadier Rahul Machral (SM) in the presence of guest of honour Santosh Kumar N, deputy commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Hyderabad Region.

The event witnessed participation from 370 student athletes, 145 girls and 225 boys, representing more than 50 Kendriya Vidyalayas of the Hyderabad Region.

The ceremony began at 9:30 am with the presentation of the colour party, showcasing discipline and patriotic fervour and welcoming the guests. The distinguished dignitaries were accorded a warm green welcome ceremony, reaffirming KVS commitment to sustainability.

Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 Golconda presented a melodious welcome song, after which principal Suresh Katoch, PM Shri KV 1 Golconda, delivered the welcome address, extending gratitude to the chief guest, officials, and participating contingents.

The spirit of sportsmanship was on full display during the introduction of national participants and athletic officials, followed by an impressive march past by all contingents. The torch lighting ceremony was conducted by eminent sportspersons of the region, symbolising the light of knowledge, peace, and sporting excellence. The oath taking ceremony was administered to uphold the spirit of fair play.

Addressing the gathering, Santosh Kumar motivated the young athletes to compete with determination and integrity.

In his key note address, Brigadier Rahul Machral lauded KVS for nurturing talent and discipline through sports and declared the 55th KVS Regional Athletic Meet 2026-27 open. The declaration was marked by the release of tricolour balloons into the sky.

The athletic events commenced immediately after the ceremony and will continue till April 29, 2026.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Sunil Sharma, principal, PM SHRI KV No. 2 Golconda, expressing appreciation to the Artillery Centre members, KVS officials, escort teachers, and organising teams.

The meet aims to select the best athletes from Hyderabad Region to represent at the KVS National Sports Meet 2026-27.
