Hyderabad colts had a miserable day on the field against Haryana in their Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite U-16 match at Mulapadu, Vijayawada, on Thursday.

Put into bat, Hyderabad batters were left clueless against an incisive Haryana attack and were bundled out for 97. Aadarsh Malik took five for 37.

Hyderabad began their innings on a disastrous note as Varshit (4) and Huzaifa (3) were back in the pavilion without much ado. Parthiv and skipper Aditya Vardhan tried to rebuild the innings with the only bright partnership for the team. The duo added 52 for the third wicket but Aditya 29) and Parthiv (27) went in quick succession to leave Hyderabad tottering at 68 for four.

Thereafter it was a virtual procession as the batters failed to stay at the wicket. The only other batter to reach double figures were No.10 bat S Rithvik, who remained not out on 12.

Rubbing salt on the wounds, Haryana closed the first day at 210 for six, a handy 113 runs lead.

In contrast to the Hyderabad innings, Haryana openers Aarush Yadav and Yashvardhan Rathee gave their side a solid start. The duo added 71 for the first wicket before Aarush (33) fell to Sai Sarath. Rathee (46) fell at 110.

Abhiraj Vashisht and Yovesh Kashyap added 71 for the third wicket to consolidate the lead. Yovesh fell for 42 and Haryana lost three more quick wickets.

At stumps, Vashisht was batting on 67 and Yash Bhatotia was on 2.

Brief scores: Hyderabad 97 in 30.3 overs (Aadarsh Malik 5/37) vs Haryana 210/6 in 56 overs (Aarush Yadav 33, Yashvardhan R 46, Yovesh K 42, Abhiraj Vashisht 67batting).
