Former footballer Edward Dias passed away in Hyderabad on Monday. He was 82. Dias had played for Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyderabad Police football teams.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Edward Dias, who proudly represented the Hyderabad Police football team,” said former India captain Victor Amalraj.

“He was a dedicated sportsman who served the game with commitment and passion,” he added.

The Football fraternity extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members during this difficult time.

“May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said a release.

Dias funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Trimulgherry at 2 pm and it will be followed by the burial at Mettuguda Cemetery.

It was a solemn moment of remembrance: Victor

Later in the evening Victor spoke about the funeral mass. “Today I attended the funeral Mass of our beloved brother Edward Dias at Holy Family Church Lal Bazar. It was a solemn moment of prayer and remembrance as we bid farewell to a true footballer of our fraternity,” he said.

“On behalf of the football fraternity, I conveyed our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.

“We stand in solidarity with them in this time of grief and pray that the Almighty grants eternal rest to his soul and strength to the family.

“He will always be remembered for his contribution to football and the legacy he leaves behind. May his soul rest in peace,” Victor said.
