Former handball player and SAI coach Chenna Reddy passes away in Hyderabad

Former international handball player and SAI coach G Chenna Reddy passed away in Hyderabad on June 22 morning.  The last rites will be conducted on Wednesday.

Chenna Reddy was one of India’s finest handball players, representing the nation with distinction on the international stage. He was a member of the Indian handball team at the 1982 Asian Games, New Delhi, and later served as a senior handball coach with the Sports Authority of India (SAI). He was also associated with various Indian handball teams as a player, coach, and mentor, contributing immensely to the growth of the sport in the country.

A revered mentor and stalwart of handball, he dedicated his entire life to the development and promotion of the game. Under his guidance, numerous players rose to national and international prominence, and many secured distinguished positions in government and private sectors. His tireless efforts, commitment to excellence, and passion for nurturing young talent helped shape generations of athletes.

His contributions to Hyderabad’s rich handball legacy and to Indian handball as a whole will remain an enduring inspiration for years to come.

The sporting fraternity has lost a true legend, teacher, guide, and role model. His invaluable contributions to handball and his unwavering commitment to the development of athletes will forever be remembered with respect, gratitude, and admiration.

He is survived by his wife Usha Rani Onteddu, son Gayam Rakesh Reddy, daughters Sushma Reddy Gayam and Reshma Reddy Gayam.
