Former World No.1 Karim Gawad, playing some of his scintillating best, produced a masterclass against Victor Crouin to win his second Grasshopper Cup title in Zurich on Sunday.
Gawad, who was last crowned champion back in 2023, only dropped one game on his way to claiming the title which came in the semifinals against Joel Makin. The former World Champion dispatched Crouin comfortably at 3-0 to clinch the 32nd title of his career.

The Egyptian came flying out of the blocks in the first, showing good variation with his play. Crouin, who ousted top seed Diego Elias yesterday, was tenacious in his defence as he was able to keep pace with Gawad.
Gawad was relentless
Gawad won the first 11-8, but he only required six minutes to double his lead as the sublime winners continued to flow from his racket. After winning the second 11-4, the relentlessness of Gawad continued in the third, with his excellent movement and precision hitting closing out the third game 11-5.

“I’m really happy and blessed to win Grasshopper again,” he said. “To play in front of such an amazing crowd here in Zurich, the people here are very special and welcoming. They know how to treat the players and give them the support they need.

Result: 2-Karim Gawad (EGY) beat 3-Victor Crouin (FRA) 3-0 (11-8, 11-4, 11-5).
