Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar sets world record as India sweep 50m rifle 3P medals

Two-time Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar shot a new world record to clinch the gold medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Asian Shooting Championships 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday.

Competing at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, the 25-year-old Indian shooter defended his title with a total of 362.0 after the kneeling, prone and standing rounds in the final.

Overall, it was Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar’s fifth individual shooting medal at the Asian Championships after bronze in Doha 2019, gold in Changwon 2023, silver in Jakarta 2024 and another gold in Shymkent 2025.

India also completed a clean sweep in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event, with Niraj Kumar taking silver with 361.8 and Akhil Sheoran securing bronze with 343.5.

Earlier, the trio of Niraj, Aishwary and Akhil combined for a total of 1769-106x in qualification rounds to deliver India the team gold. Japan finished second with 1754-86x, while Kazakhstan took bronze with 1748-87x.

Niraj topped qualifying with 593-34x, followed by Rudrankksh Patil (591-33x), who competed for Ranking Points Only (RPO).

Aishwary (588-40x) placed third in qualification and Akhil (588-32x) fourth. Nikhil Tanwar, also shooting for RPO, registered 587-29x for sixth position.

Thursday’s haul took India’s tally in senior events at the ongoing championships, which only features rifle and pistol events, up to 26 – 10 gold, nine silver and seven bronze.
