Varuni Jaiswal and Swarnendu won the women’s and men’s singles title at the Telangana State Table Tennis Championship for Men and Women at the GSM Table Tennis Academy in Secunderabad on Monday.
In a closely contested women’s singles final, Varuni pulled off a thrilling come from behind 3-2 win over Sri Saanvi of SPARS.
Varuni began well by taking the first game with relative ease 11-5. However, Saanvi was not to be outwitted so quickly. She struck back with a vengeance and took the next two games at 11-8 and 11-9.
But Varuni found her range in time and the next two games were bitterly fought as both players dished out their best. Varuni, however, prevailed in the tug-of-war and took the next two games at 11-9, 11-9 to clinch the crown.
Devisree of GSM won the third prize as she defeated Pranitha of HVS 3-2.

The men’s singles final was a ding-dong battle between Swarnendu of AVSE and Trishul Mehra of HDTT. Swarnendu prevailed 3-2 to emerge champion.
Swarnendu took the first game at 11-6 but the next one was won by Trishul at 11-7. Swarnendu took the third game at 11-8 to go 2-1 up. However, Trishul levelled the scores by winning the fourth game at 11-9. In the final game, Swarnendu got the better of his opponent and won it 11-8.

The third place was won by Ali Mohammed of HDTT who defeated Vathsin B of GTTA 3-1.
