Vaibhav, Vihaan, Maanvika, Yashashree pull off wins; Shubham & Adhira fall

Nail-biting finishes and commanding displays were the order of the day as the Under-11 boys’ and girls’ Round of 32 produced an enthralling day of table tennis action in the fifth UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships at the Harivansh Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday.

In the Under-11 boys’ division, West Bengal players continued their dominance with several standout performances. Rajdeep Biswas led the charge with a commanding 11-1, 11-6, 11-7 win over Kavish Saran of TTFI-1, while Hridan Biswas and Arjun Sen also recorded straight-game victories, showcasing West Bengal’s strong developmental depth.

One of the day’s most gripping contests came from Ayushman Ghosh of West Bengal, who survived a tense five-game battle against compatriot Srijit Saha, edging through 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 12-10. His resilience and clutch play under pressure earned loud applause from the crowd. Similarly, Avyaan Walia fought back from the brink, overcoming Shrihan Chowdhury of Bengal 12-14, 12-10, 5-11, 15-13, 11-7 in one of the tournament’s most intense encounters so far.

Rajvardhan Tiwari of Maharashtra and Aarav Sahney of TTFI-1 also turned in confident performances to move forward, while Rehansh Singhvi of Gujarat held firm in crucial moments to down West Bengal’s Abir Ghosh 14-12, 11-8, 11-8.  Aarav overcame a fighting Telangana paddler Shubham Dey 12-10, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4.

Andhra Pradesh’s Vaibhav Jeenepalli scored a comfortable 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 win over MP’s Saakaar Bhargava. Telangana’s Vihaan Mudumbai came from one game down to eke out a 6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 win over Ishaan Colaso of Goa.

With the pre-quarterfinals set for later tonight, eyes will be on form players like Biswas, Ghosh, and Walia, all of whom have demonstrated both grit and flair in equal measure.

In the Under-11 girls’ category, Delhi’s Kaavya Sareen set the tone with a straight-game victory over K.P. Narumugai (TN), and Assam’s Jenessa Bipul edged a tight four-game duel against Tamanna Nerlaje (Kar). Rupkatha Das (WB) staged a remarkable turnaround in her 11-13, 11-8, 15-13, 12-10 win over Alivia Mondal (WB), with the third game’s extended rally drawing widespread cheers.

Moksha (Har) and Debopriya Karmakar (WB) also displayed great composure, each surviving early setbacks to close out their matches in four games.

Andhra Pradesh’s G Mahi Maanvika pulled off one of the day’s most thrilling wins, edging Adhira Chetan of Telangana 11-7, 11-13, 16-14, 11-7, showing her ability to stay calm under pressure. Telangana’s Yashashree Sil overpowered Samhita Borthakur of Assam 11-2, 11-8, 11-9.

With several regional powerhouses represented in the girls’ pre-quarterfinals tonight, the competition is wide open. West Bengal and Maharashtra continue to field strong contenders, but Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana have shown they can spring surprises.

As the lights come on for tonight’s Under-11 pre-quarterfinals, and with the Under-13 boys and girls’ divisions trying to advance to the Round of 32, anticipation is sky-high. The young paddlers have already shown extraordinary maturity and skill — and if today’s close finishes are any indication, fans can expect another night of top-class youth table tennis.
