Fourth seed Zoha Qureshi capped a memorable week by pulling off the biggest win of her career as she clinched the Under-14 girls’ singles title at the Tirumala Sreedhar Garu ATF 14 & U Grade A (South Asia) tennis tournament at the Lake View Tennis Academy in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Up against top seed Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar, no one expected the little Zoha Qureshi to put up a lion-hearted fight. Padmapriya, who had cruised right through the tournament, found Zoha a tough material to handle.

Zoha has nerves of steel

Zoha matched her rival stroke to stroke and never let Padmapriya out of her sights. In a keenly fought encounter, both players kept the audience on the edge with their stroke play and fighting spirit.

In the boys’ section, Puneeth Manohar brooked no challenge against Aarav Chhallani. The match was quite a contrast to the girls’ final.

Puneet Manohar

Puneeth cruised to a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win as Aarav failed to put up a decent fight.
