Reeds FC edge Petra Sports Academy 2-1 to win inaugural Young Telangana Football meet

Reeds Football Club won the inaugural Young Telangana Football League at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. In a closely contest final, Reeds FC edged past Petra Sports Academy 2-1 to emerge champions.

In the third-place play-off, Gymkhana Football Club scored a hard-fought 3-2 win over LB Stadium A team.

In the semifinals, Petra Sports Academy overcame a fighting LB Stadum A on penalties. After the teams were level 1-1 at full time, the winner was decided on penalties. Petra Sports Academy won it 2-1.

On the other hand, Reeds Football Club defeated Gymkhana Football Club 2-1 to enter the final against Petra Sports Academy.

The inaugural Young Telangana Football League, conducted by the Sports Authority of Telangana, marked a landmark moment for youth football development in the state.

The tournament concluded with an award ceremony celebrating the young talent that graced the league. Sujay of Reeds FC was named Promising Player, Karunia of LB Stadium A took the Best Striker award, and Sanav of Petra Sports Academy was honoured with the Best Goalkeeper award for his outstanding display throughout the tournament. Special awards were also presented to Drishti and Tarunika, recognising the impressive contribution of girls in the league.

Dhyan Chand Award recipient Shabbir Ali attended the event as the chief guest and presented prizes to the winners. On this occasion, he appreciated the efforts being made to restore the former glory of football.

Dr Akoijam Sonibala Devi, VC & MD of the Sports Authority of Telangana, addressed club representatives and parents, calling this a pilot edition and reaffirming the government’s commitment to hosting longer-format leagues for more age groups and clubs in the coming months. It is a promising signal for the future of football in Telangana.
