Aman and Mukul settle for silver as Indian wrestlers finish campaign with 17 medals

Aman Sehrawat went down in the final of men’s freestyle 61kg and had to settle for a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2026 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Aman Sehrawat, who became India’s youngest Olympic medal winner at Paris 2024, lost to Kwang Myong Kim of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea 13-10 in the final.

In the semifinals, Aman battled past Ahmad Javan of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Compatriot Mukul Dahiya also had to settle for silver in the men’s 86kg category after going down 7-0 to two-time Asian champion Kamran Ghasempour of Iran.

Meanwhile, Dinesh bagged bronze in the 125kg category after a 7-1 win over Shamil Sharipov of Bahrain.

The three medals, two silver and a bronze, on the final day took India’s overall tally at the Asian Wrestling Championships to 17. Indian men clinched seven medals, including two gold, three silver and two bronze.

The Greco-Roman wrestlers finished with five medals, two silvers and three bronze, while the women’s contingent also won five, which included a silver and four bronze.

India had sent 30 wrestlers to the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships, with 10 each in men’s freestyle, women’s and Greco-Roman categories.

Indian medal winners: Gold: Sujeet Kalkal (men’s 65kg), Abhimanyou Mandwal (men’s 70kg).

Silver: Lalit Sehrawat (Greco-Roman 55kg), Nitesh Siwach (Greco-Roman 97kg), Aman Sehrawat (men’s 61kg), Mukul Dahiya (men’s 86kg), Meenakshi Goyat (women’s 53kg), Sandeep Mann (men’s 79kg).

Bronze: Sunil Kumar (Greco-Roman 87kg), Prince (Greco-Roman 82kg), Sachin Sahrawat (Greco-Roman 67kg), Hansika Lamba (women’s 55kg), Neha (women’s 59kg), Monika (women’s 65kg), Harshita (women’s 72kg), Ankush (men’s 57kg), Dinesh (men’s 125kg).
