Ratnakar Rao bags a double, Shivaji Chavan wins doubles title in 70+ category

Ratnakar Rao Anne completed a double in the 70+ category by winning the singles and doubles title and Shivaji Chavan bagged the doubles title and finished runners-up in the singles at the Bharat Science MT-200 Hyderabad 2026, ITF World Masters Tour Seniors Ranking Tennis Tournament.

In the men’s singles final, Ratnakar Rao was unstoppable as he crushed Shivaji Chavan in straight sets. Ratnakar Rao scored a resounding 6-2, 6-2 win as he proved unstoppable.

After giving some fight in the first set, Shivaji, however, lost steam in the second set as he was blanked by Ratnakar.

In the semifinals, Ratnakar Rao got the better of Babu Reddy Thokala in straight sets. Ratnakar won the first set quiet easily at 6-1. But Babu Reddy came back strongly in the second set and gave Ratnakar Rao a scare. However, Ratnakar Rao managed to keep his composure and shut out Babu Reddy andwin teh set and match at 6-4.

On the other hand, Shivaji Chavan was in his elements as he thrashed his rival P Raju Chandra without conceding a game.

Shivaji pulled off a stunning 6-0, 6-0 win over his rival to march into the final in grand style. But Ratnakar proved quite a handful for him in the final.

Shivaji-Ratnakar clinch doubles title

However, Shivaji Chavan had the consolation of winning the doubles title in the company of Ratnakar Rao.

The duo was stretched by their rivals before they came through in a thrilling final. Second seeds Ratnakar Rao and Shivaji Chavan defeated top seeds Dr Ramakrishna Sudagani and Murthati Suresh in three sets.

Ratnakar and Shivaji managed to keep their noses ahead in what turned out to be a tough first set. Both teams put up their best show as they fought for each point with great determination and grit. However, Ratnakar and Shivaji won the first set at 7-6.

Ramakrishna and Suresh, however, did not thrown in the towel. They took the fight to their opponents and managed to win the set after another gritty fight. They won 7-5 to stretch the final to the final set.

In the final set, neither side was willing to let go. Despite their age, the players kept fighting and did not relent till the last point was scored.

Ratnakar and Shivaji prevailed in the pulsating final by winning the final set 10-8.

Ratnakar-Shivaji battle past Purushotham-Babu

In the semifinals, Ratnakar Rao and Shivaji Chavan defeated Venkata Purushotham Reddy Chintalapani and Babu Reddy Thokala in straight sets.

Purushotham Reddy and Babu Reddy fought well in the first set and pushed Ratnakar and Shivaji to the brink. However, they were unable to finish the job and let the second seeds off the hook. Ratnakar and Shivaji took the first set at 6-4.

In the next set, Purushotham and Babu lost steam and the will to fight on. They gave it up quite easily to lost 1-6.
