Saptajit Das leads Tripura’s fight back with a solid reply to Andhra’s mammoth 569

Tripura made a spirited reply to Andhra’s first innings score of 569 as they ended Day Two of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at 197 for two at the DVR ground in Mulapudu, near Vijayawada, on Saturday.

Tripura still trail by 372 runs but have eight wickets in hand. Saptajit Das was batting on 94 off 111 balls with eight fours and four sixes and giving him company was Parvez Sultan on six off 12 balls with a four.

Tripura did not have a good start as opener Tanmoy Das had to retire hurt after making nine. Arman Hossain and Saptajit Das then took the score to 60 with a 46-run partnership before Hossain was bowled by TA Hemanth Kumar for 24 off 56 balls with five fours.

Saptajit and Sahil Sultan then added 124 runs for the second wicket to keep their side in the contest. Saptajit scored 64 off 70 balls and Sahil Sultan made 55 off 88 balls as they duo kept the Andhra bowlers at bay for 158 balls before Sahil fell. Sahil was bowled by G Sumith for 55 off 88 balls with eight fours and a six.

Resuming at their overnight score of 358 for three, Andhra went lost overnight batter K Revanth Reddy at 376. Revanth Reddy, who was on 183, could add only two more to the score before falling to Rajdeep Datta. His innings spanned 262 balls with 17 fours and five sixes.

Abhinav, who was on 40 overnight, found a partner in KSS Jayanth and the duo added 35 off 41 balls before Abhinav perished for a 122-ball 70 with six fours and a six.

Jayanth and SDNV Prasad then added 73 off 61 balls for the sixth wicket with Prasad doing the bulk of the scoring. He contributed 46 off 32 balls, while Jayanth made 27 off 29 balls.

Thereafter, Andhra lost a few quick wickets before G Sumith and last man TA Hemanth Kumar added 60 off 66 balls to bolster the Andhra score. Sumith fell for 47 off 44 balls with nine fours, while Hemanth remained unbeaten on 26 off 36 balls with four boundaries.

Andhra made a whopping 569 in 126 overs.
