Aneeksha and Thanush overcome mid-match blues to win singles’ U-14 National series titles

Telangana’s Aneeksha Gavinolla and Karnataka’s Thanush Shekar BC won the girls singles and boys singles titles at the Under-14 National Series AITA tournament at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Aneeksha overcame mid-match blues to put it across Trisha Bhosale of Maharashtra in a tough three-set contest.

Aneeksha was off the blocks quickly as she owned the first set with her commanding performance. The Telangana girl won the set with relative ease at 6-1.

However, Aneeksha lost her momentum in the second set as Trisha hit back with a vengeance. The Maharashtra player pulled the rug from under Aneeksha’s feet as she won the set at 6-3.

A chagrined Aneeksha made a superb comeback by winning the decider 6-1 and claiming the title.

Trisha, however, had the consolation of winning the doubles title with Mrigakshee Changmai of Assam. They defeated Maahira Bhatia of UK and Myra Shaik of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-4.

Thanush downs Shishanth

Thanush pulled off a three-set win over Shishanth Shivaraj of Tamil Nadu. In what turned out to be a closely-fought match, both the players dished out their best but Thanush managed to win the key points which made all the difference.

The first set was a tough battle but Thanush managed to pip Shishanth 6-4. However, Shishanth came back with a vengeance as he wrested the second set 6-3 to take the final to the decider.

In the decider, Thanush tightened up his game and produced the big points to claim the set at 6-3 and take home the title.

The doubles title was won by Gujarat’s Rain Atul Nandankar and Rajishnu Poptani. They defeated ronak Glandas Hariyani of Rajasthan and Jegan Rohit Kumar of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 7-6(3).

Results: Boys singles: Thanush Shekar BC (Karnataka) beat Shishanth Shivaraj (TN) 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Doubles: Rian Atul Nandankar (Guj) / Rajishnu Poptani (Guj) beat Ronak Glandas Hariyani (Raj) / Jegan Rohit Kumar (TN) 6-2, 7-6 (3).

Girls’ singles: Aneeksha Gavinolla (TG) beat Trisha Bhosale (MAH) 6-1, 3-6, 6-1

Doubles: Mrigakshee Changmai (AS) / Trisha Bhosale (MAH) beat Maahira Bhatia (UK) / Myra Shaikh (MAH) 6-2, 6-4.
