Canara Bank thump Food Corporation of India by 8 wickets to emerge HCA D Div champions

Canara Bank scored a thumping eight-wicket win over Food Corporation of India in the final of the HCA D Division Institution One-day League Championship for the 2025-26 season at the Dr NK Rao Stadium in NFC, Hyderabad, on Sunday.

Canara Bank skipper Mohd Abdul Javeed won the toss and invited Food Corporation of India to bat first. Javeed struck the first blow by having Vinod Kumar Reddy (4) leg before.

 

Srinivas, Nikhil wreck Food Corporation of India

Mediumpacer S Nikhil Kumar then got rid of GVN Upendra (12) before left-arm spinner G Srinivas Rao ran through the middle-order as the Food Corporation of India batters were all at sea against the veteran spinner. Srinivas Rao packed off Sumit Kumar Sinha (0), D Venkatesh Sagar (1) and Satya Prasad Vijaygiri (8) as Food Corporation of India faltered.

Srinivas finished with figures of four for 19 in 8 overs, while Nikhil took three for 42 and M Eshwar bagged two for 24.

Food Corporation of India were bowled out for 113 with No.3 bat V Shathakarni making a topscore of 36 off 40 balls with seven fours. Kundan Kumar made 23 off 33 balls with 4 fours to take FCI past the 100-run mark.

Eshwar and Praveen steer Canara Bank home

Canara Bank made a sound start but lost opener G Arvind Kumar after the southpaw had made 17. The bankers also lost M Naveen (1) to be delicately placed. But M Eshwar and N Praveen Kumar steered Canara Bank to a resounding victory as they made 114 for two in 23 overs.

M Eshwar made an unbeaten 56 off 64 balls with six fours and a six, while Praveen Kumar was undefeated on 31 off 46 balls with two fours.

Canara Bank won all their eight matches in the season to remain undefeated.

Brief scores: Food Corporation of India 113 in 26.2 overs (V Shathakarni 36, Kundan Kumar 23; G Srinivas Rao 4/19, S Nikhil Kumar 3/42, M Eshwar 2/24) lost to Canara Bank 114 for two in 23 overs (M Eshwar 56 not out, N Praveen Kumar 31 not out; Sumit Kumar Sinha 2/16).
