The 70th School Games Federation of Telangana (SGFI) inter-school district-level sports competitions (2026–27) was inaugurated at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on September 1, 2026. More than 100 schools from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad participated in the function enthusiastically.
The programme was graced by chief guest Mahesh Kumar Goud, MLC and president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). International karate player and Black Belt Anil Kumar Yadav, MP, Rajya Sabha, and Shiv Sena Reddy, Chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana (SAT), were among the prominent guests present on the occasion.
As part of the inaugural ceremony, the dignitaries and students participated in the balloon release ceremony and took the sports oath together. The School Games Federation flag was hoisted, followed by the March Past by participating school teams.
The programme reflected the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, unity and healthy competition among school students. The inaugural event marked an important beginning for promoting sports and encouraging young athletes to participate actively in school-level games and competitions.

Addressing the athletes on the occasion, Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that paving the way for the holistic development of students is possible by giving equal importance to sports alongside academics. He noted that sports foster discipline, perseverance, self-confidence, and leadership qualities in students, while also contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
Mahesh Kumar Goud remarked that such competitions are highly beneficial in unearthing sporting talent from rural and government schools. He expressed his hope that students would participate with true sportsmanship, accepting both victory and defeat with equanimity, and showcase their talent.
The competitions are being conducted in various sports disciplines for boys and girls in the Under-14 and Under-17 categories. Organizers stated that identifying talented athletes at the district level and selecting them for subsequent competitions would provide them with opportunities to excel at the state and national levels.
