The Archery Association of India (AAI) has announced that globally renowned archery coach Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin, technical director and head coach of the Turkish national archery team, will conduct a specialised Recurve Coaches Workshop in Jaipur from March 11 to 16, 2026. The initiative is part of AAI’s efforts to strengthen India’s coaching ecosystem and introduce international best practices in archery training.
A former Olympian who represented Türkiye at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Ergin transitioned into coaching in 2016 and has since become one of the most respected figures in global archery.
Turkiye emerged as a dominant force under Yusuf’s leadership
Under his leadership, Türkiye emerged as a dominant force in the sport, winning its first-ever Olympic archery gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, followed by a mixed team bronze at the World Archery Championships 2021, and men’s individual gold and team silver at the World Archery Championships 2023. Ergin was also named World Archery Coach of the Year in 2018 and currently serves as the Chair of the World Archery Coaches Committee, where he contributes to shaping global coaching standards.
The six-day workshop in Jaipur will bring together Indian recurve coaches for intensive sessions covering advanced shooting techniques, sports science-led training methods, athlete management, and performance psychology. The programme aims to provide Indian coaches with insights into modern high-performance training systems used by leading archery nations.

“The development of world-class athletes begins with strong coaching systems. Hosting a coach of Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin’s calibre reflects our commitment to providing Indian coaches and athletes exposure to the best training practices globally. Initiatives like this will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s performance pipeline for upcoming international competitions,” said Virendra Sachdeva, secretary general of the Archery Association of India.
India has tremendous potential in archery: Yusuf
Sharing his thoughts on the workshop, Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin said, “India has tremendous potential in archery, with talented athletes and passionate coaches. I look forward to sharing our training approaches and learning from the Indian archery community. Such initiatives help strengthen the global archery ecosystem and create opportunities for athletes to perform at the highest level.”
Ergin is widely known for integrating sports science into archery training. His programmes combine high-volume daily shooting with structured strength and conditioning, supported by sports scientists and performance experts. This system has helped develop elite archers including Olympic champion Mete Gazoz and European champion Yasemin Anagoz.
Beginning of a strategic collaboration between India and Turkiye
The workshop will also mark the beginning of a strategic collaboration between India and Türkiye in archery development. Following the Jaipur programme, a group of Indian recurve archers will travel to Türkiye for advanced training, paving the way for long-term technical exchange between the two archery federations.
This initiative aligns with AAI’s broader vision of enhancing India’s competitiveness at major global events, including the Asian Games, the World Archery Championships, and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Recurve Coaches Workshop will bring together coaches from across the country to learn from one of the most accomplished figures in international archery.
