YMCA Secunderabad, Titans, Sanathnagar Playground and Victory Playground are the four teams standing after the knock-out round came to an end on Saturday night at the 6th Samuel Vasanth Kumar Memorial Basketball Tournament at YMCA Secunderabad.
The league semifinal will be played from Monday evening at YMCA Secunderabad.
On Saturday night, in the battle of YMCAs, YMCA Secunderabad scored a comfortable 60-43 win over YMCA Hyderabad to book their last four berth. In another match, Titans had no problems in packing off G9 70-53.
YMCA Hyderabad started well with Vishwa and Sumit scoring five points apiece to get going but YMCA Secunderabad hoopsters were not going to be behind. Vamshi of YMCA Secunderabad scored four consecutive baskets and with Dennis netting a 3-pointer, YMCA Secunderabad closed the first quarter 13-10.
In the second quarter, Krish joined Sumit on the scoring board for YMCA Hyderabad. However, Rakesh upped his game to score 13 of the 23 points scored by YMCA Secunderabad to extend his side’s lead to 36-25 at half-time.
After the lemon break, YMCA Secunderabad tightened their defense to restrict YMCA Hyderabad to just six points and in turn their hoopster Rakesh scored 12 consecutive points to extend the lead further to 50-31.
In the last quarter, YMCA Hyderabad tried hard to recover, but the gap was too much to bridge. YMCA Secunderabad’s Sri Harsha used his height to good effect scoring eight points in the quarter as YMCA Secunderabad prevailed 60-43.
In another match, Titans displayed exceptional defense and offense to breeze past G9 70-53 after leading 53-35 at half-time.
Vignesh and Nandit scored 17 points apiece, while Salman and Surya scored 11 each to bolster Titans’ score. For G9, Sravan was the topscorer with 19 points, while Sai got 11, Chandu 9 and Aftab and Sameer got six each.
The tournament is being conducted by Sports Writers Association of Telangana (SWAT) under the aegis of The Hyderabad District Basketball Association.
